The response widget on the article comment section at Ars Technica is really good. Just an up-arrow and a down-arrow, and if the rating drops below something like -20, it gets hidden (there is a post-hidden-note that you can click to expand it in place, but the quote button is absent for it). ---

Or at least an I Don’t Eat Skittles option. (And probably an I Don’t Eat M&M’s option, though I personally didn’t need that one.) Also an “other” on the pronunciation. ---

Yeah, I’ve never pronounces MPSIMS either of those ways. I often read it to myself as “mundane pointless things I must share” – which is why I tend to mistype the acronym. ---

Skittles, one at a time because they’re different flavors. M&Ms, usually one at a time, just to space them out. If I’m bored and not moving for a while I’ll sort them by color and eat one color at a time. Sometimes though, with the ‘fun-size’ bags I’ll just upend the wold bag into my mouth without a qualm. ---

Peanut M&Ms - one at a time, sorted by color, in rotation. I don’t eat any other kind of M&M or Skittles. ---

I’m with @silenus . I eat peanut M&Ms … but in no particular pattern. I don’t eat “regular” M&Ms or Skittles. I had Canadian and Brit friends who said Smarties were so much better than M&Ms, so I got some when I was in England about 40 years ago. I didn’t care for them, because one (a couple?) of the colors had a fruit flavoring. Really off-putting to me. It’s partly why I don’t eat Skittles. Fruit “flavored” items can be really gross. ---

I separate my candies by color, then eat them in sequence, so if my bag of M&Ms has, say, 8 brown, 5 green, 6 red, and 4 yellow, I’ll divide them into groups by color and then eat them one at a time in sequence in such a way that I don’t end up with all one color. If the candy is also flavored, how the flavors coordinate comes into the calculation, but I still eat them one at a time. I had co-workers who I suspect used to give me bags of Skittles or M&Ms just to watch me arrange them. ---

At first I mentally pronounced it “miss-pizzums” until I looked more closely at what the letters actually are. I still sometimes think of it that way. ---

I disagree. If a pollster is interested in what percentage of people who eat Skittles eat them one at a time, an “I don’t eat Skittles” option is of no use. If no answer applies to me, I just don’t answer. Not every poll needs an “other.” ---

If none of the options apply to me because I have no opinion in the matter or am clearly not in the group to be polled (e.g. ‘this actor or that one’ when I don’t know or don’t care, or 'those of you who live in city apartments . . . '), then I don’t vote and don’t care. If none of the options apply to me because it’s something I do have an opinion about but my opinion doesn’t fit in the options and there’s no ‘other’ choice, then I don’t vote but it does bother me a bit and I may come grumble about it here. This is not a grumble for the relevant poll, which does have an ‘other’ option; it’s just an explanation of my ‘other’ vote. – I separate M&M colors, then eat them in matched pairs, one on each side of my mouth. I tend to save preferred colors for last, but may or may not eat all of one color first or may alternate colors. I think it’s moderately weird that I do this, and I might not do it if people were watching. I’m mildly surprised that other people sort out the colors and eat them differently. ---
