January is worse than February because it’s first quarter/grant reporting hell. And a big complicated application due every year. February is not great either but I’m usually looking forward to my early March birthday, so it’s more bearable. ---

One of my daughter’s best friend’s is named “Daria”. She’s a lovely girl and I have to bite my tongue when I see her because she bears a strong resemblance to the animated character of the same name. (I once discreetly asked my daughter if her friend was aware of the _Daria_ series, and apparently she is.) ---

I assumed @psychonaut’s names polls referred to first names only, though he didn’t explicitly say so. I have known people with Harris as a last name. I also wish those polls had had a “None of the above” option, to distinguish between people who didn’t know anyone with any of those names and people who just didn’t bother to participate. ---

December is my least favorite month. Because by then we’re already into the third month of Christmas and it gets ramped up to 11. I tend to be in a very bad mood until 12/26, then I’m fine again ---

In Germany and Austria, Christmas is on both 25 and 26 December, but there’s no commercially driven tradition of starting the holiday season three months early. Here in Vienna it’s only been in the past week that the city put out its street lights. Most stores are only just putting their decorations up. ---
