I was about to dispute this, but then learned that Karmann-Ghias had a slightly different chassis than the Beetle, so the battery was in the rear engine compartment. This made jumping it a lot easier, although it was light enough that you could pop the clutch yourself. The VW Vanagon had an air cooled rear engine with the battery under the passenger seat. ---

My hands get cleaner if i wash my hair in the shower than if i just wash my hands. Sometimes, when i have crap under my fingernails or in the creases that i can’t get out, i wash my hair even though it doesn’t need it. (I usually wash my hair once or twice a week.) So i don’t really get that question. (I also spend a fair amount of time with just my hands in the shower, waiting for it to get warm enough to subject the rest of my body to it. If i just pooped, i might even touch the soap while i do that. I think? I’m not even sure. At any rate, my hands get plenty clean when i shower.) ---

Thanks! I’m pretty sure it was the Fastback. That’s the one that looks familiar. I remember us thinking it was an odd-looking car. The Beetle was odd-looking too, of course; but by then it was a familiar sort of odd look. I don’t remember that slanted hatchback shape being common at the time. – I wonder whether maybe it didn’t have the original battery in it, and the replacement was just a little taller and therefore more likely to contact the seat springs? ---

My wife and I were staying at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago. The fire alarm went off at about 7 am. We’d experienced fase alarms before so we weren’t exactly rushing to get our clothes on and get out. But when we opened the door, the hallway was filled with smoke! We trudged down 29 flights of stairs and watched a giant plume of smoke rise out of the building from the beach across the street. Turns out a car burned in the attached parking garage (which consisted of the first several floors of the hotel) and filled the whole ventilation system with smoke. Nobody was injured, but it was hours before they let us back in. Fortunately I had taken my wallet and we had no plans for the day, so we went out to breakfast and took a walk up and down A1A for a while. I’m sure other people were much more inconvenienced. ---

I voted I prefer watching movies at home. I don’t necessarily mind the theater, but it’s more of a hassle and I don’t enjoy the movie any more. Home means no driving, parking, or dealing with other people. We have big TVs and good sound, so I’m probably happier at home. Also, we’re not “movie people” who would appreciate whatever advantages we might get from the big screen. ---

Pre-COVID, I would have answered “in the theater” – going to see movies at a theater was a big part of my social life, and I just generally enjoyed the experience. I haven’t been in a theater in three years, and while at-home viewing is pretty cool, I think I’ll be starting to go back out to theaters for certain films that I really want to see as a big-screen experience. ---

It’s been at least a decade since I’ve been in a movie theater. There’s the whole COVID thing, plus my hearing loss makes captions desirable. I doubt I’ll ever see a movie in a theater again and I’m happy with that. ---

I’m not kidding when I say most of my drivers license/passport photos make me look like someone who has come off a bender, or who is about to mail you a suspicious package. Do I care? No. I find it kind of funny. I mean, if I look like that anyway, it might as well be true to life. 😅 ---

My gf drives me to the DMV for my driver’s license picture. Why? Because I get pretty drunk and high first. The pictures are hilarious, and I’ve never had the clerk question my appearance (hair askew, red eyes, etc). ETA: also, I never smile. I glare. ---

My state ID card photo is awful. One time a cashier asked me if I was drunk when the photo was taken which I thought was hilarious ---

I’ve discovered they are great for getting your fingernails clean. I do wash my hands deliberately in the shower. Mostly because my skin is so doggone sensitive that I use different soaps for different areas. I don’t want to apply medicated stuff to sensitive areas that need something more gentle. ---
