I like shrimp, crab, and lobster. Intellectually, I like to believe I would be capable of eating insects.

But I would have to be _ **extremely** _ hungry.

That’s why I _do_ eat them.

Waffle House is a thing of wonder to the racing crowd. The serve us fast, the food is hot, the hashbrowns and waffles are tasty and they are open as early and as late as we need when we finally find ourselves in a position to eat. Sadly, they don’t have a single store in Minnesota but I think if they would just station themselves outside the entrance to most racetracks around the country, they would be able to drum up enough business to make a good profit.

To me that’s not hash browns; it’s potatoes O’Brien. Which I love, but sometimes I just want nothing but potato-y goodness.

My last post in this thread was about eating bugs. I came back to it, and **carrps** was quoting this. It made for an interesting mental image. 😁

> The Waffle House Index is an informal metric named after the ubiquitous Southern US restaurant chain Waffle House known for its 24-hour, 365-day service. This restaurant's drive to always remain open has given rise to an informal but useful metric to determine the severity of a storm and the likely scale of assistance required for disaster recovery. It was coined by former administrator Craig Fugate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The metric is unofficially used The index is...

Man do I ever love Currywurst. Not sure why voice to text capitalized that, but there you go.

Anyway, Currywurst hot on the streets of a German winter, bought at a kiosk, is a lovely thing.

For the record, depending on how bugs are preserved, their exoskeletons are quite soft. However, in terms of smell and texture, I recommend for your mental health you never buy a can of the following:

> **[Amazon.com : Fluker's Gourmet Canned Food for Reptiles, Fish, Birds and Small...](https://www.amazon.com/Flukers-Gourmet-Style-Canned-Reptile-Roaches/dp/B08MTD8PNC)**
>
> Amazon.com : Fluker's Gourmet Canned Food for Reptiles, Fish, Birds and Small Animals - Dubia Roaches, 1.2oz : Pet Supplies

So, you could have a wide variety of options, not just the default popcorn style (or made into a fine ground meal and made into patties or other shaped options).

But sure, I absolutely agree that texture, taste, and the visual aspect are going to be huge barrier for plenty of folks. Just was trying to use the aspect of other ‘creepy crawlies’ that have a better food rep as a counterpoint.

Heck, I’ve eaten fried crickets in Mexico, and a chocolate covered freeze dried cricket here in the states. The first, well, think spicy, slightly nutty popcorn (complete with shells sticking in teeth sadly) and the second was almost unnoticeable due to the large amount of chocolate to tiny cricket.

I’ve tried things made with cricket flour and chapulines. I think they both taste like dirt, but I think I appreciate the chapulines more because they’re honest, not to mention they’re coated in garlic, lime, salt and spices. The chips and other things I’ve had made with cricket flour taste like that thing is supposed to taste like, but someone chucked a shovelful of dirt into the big mixer at some point. I’d eat it if I were starving, but given a choice I’ll pass.

Curry wurst is ok. Not my favorite German street food. I’d much rather have a nice bratwurst with spicy mustard or that most German of foods, a nice gyro.

I’ve had ants and grasshoppers. Both were tasty, and if it was easy to buy them fresh, and if my family would eat them, I’d be happy to put them in the recipe cycle. Most beetles taste terrible, according to everyone i know who’s eaten beetles, accidentally or in purpose.

I’ve had curryworst and it’s not my thing. I’d have to be very hungry to eat it again, “free” isn’t nearly enough of an incentive. But it’s not an abomination. It’s just something this picky eater doesn’t care for. I couldn’t vote in that one.

A good friend once advised me, many years ago:

“For most people, it’s easier to find a new job than to find a new romantic partner. Therefore, if you find yourself mutually interested in a co-worker, you should go for it, despite the conventional wisdom that workplace romances are a bad idea.”

I’d never heard of currywurst before, and I’m not sure what it is, but I know what curry is, and I know what wurst is, so currywurst sounds like it at least has a chance of being good.

It’s essentially a hot dog without the bun, covered in curry ketchup (“Currygewürzketchup”). Sometimes additional curry powder is also sprinkled on top. Sometimes the sauce is just plain tomato ketchup with curry powder sprinkled on top.
