I said “everyday,” but actually most days my wife actually does it. If she’s gone when I get up, I’ll do it. On weekends, we often make the bed together.

I make my everyday bed every day, but the guest beds only when they need changing.

What’s not to like about an impulse response of an inhomogeneous linear differential operator defined on a domain with specified initial conditions or boundary conditions ?

How do you define “make the bed” with a duvet ? I fold it down every day…

I said ‘every day’, but what I mean by ‘make the bed’ isn’t ‘make it very neatly’; it’s ‘pull things very roughly into position and try to get the top throw covering everything in case a cat pukes on the bed’. Sometimes the bed is made with one or more cats on it, which will make the results even rougher.

> I picked “$1 million put into your 401k right now, but you can’t withdraw until age 59” in the money poll. But then I realized $1 million is way more than the IRS annual 401K contribution limit, which I believe means I will have to pay taxes on the amount that exceeds the limit. So am I going to get stuck with a large tax bill that I wouldn’t have been able to afford to pay when I was 20? Maybe the annuity would have been the better choice.

I didn’t actually know that about 401ks, although I did know there was a max amount of contributions yearly rule. I tried to not make it that complex a thought experiment. Let’s just say the $1 million magically appears in your 401k at age 20 and the IRS and government is all okay with it. Then it grows, yearly, until you reach age 59.5 years old.

More like, if you could be a 20-year old right now, or, if you could go back half a century to when you were 20, what you would do.

So I’m supposed to put myself in the head of a twenty year old?

Then I’m taking the money now. And after that, my life would probably have gone in a sufficiently different direction that it’s hard to tell which of those options would have left me financially better off.

– I will point out that half a century ago 500K was a hell of a lot more money than it is now.

If I took that literally, I’d revote for 500k immediately. Because I could invest in any number of entities that would multiple my investments by at least 10x. And for the older members, they’d have even more opportunities. PLUS, bonus, a chance to change world/life events! SIGN ME UP!

Assuming that part of the deal was retroactively wiping your memories and resetting you to 20 with some unknown relative leaving you one of those (as chosen by the “you” right now) I’d still go with the 20k annually. It’s not the best option In General, but that 20k a year throughout my life would probably have saved me from some emergencies, at least one life threatening, and I’d probably have more than the BA I have right now - I would have loved to have had the financial independence to do more education when I had both the time and energy for it.

Thankfully I met and fell in love with my (now) wife when I was 20, so a good chance I’d get to keep such a wonderful woman, or there would have to be other negotiation with the mad Time Travel Scientist / Alien Space Bat / Genie that is arranging all of this.

Well, except for the Green room.

I read an article that said- do NOT make your bed just after rising, let your sweat etc evaporate, then make it. This makes sense on hot days, so I leave it unmade until the evening.

If you have a lot of “etc” in addition to the sweat, I’d say you need more than evaporation.

LOL … love the explication!

Words are my playground equipment and snack food all in one.

I have a faux duvet which gets turned back and forth in an imitation of bed making each morning.

I was in the Navy and the first thing I do when I get up is make the bed - whatever that entails depends on the sleeping apparatus.

I used to do something similar when I was younger and this totally counts as making the bed!

Seeing the word “scree” in the recent poll about bed making clarification made my heart leap for joy!

I learned the word scree a few years ago when I was out on the highways clamoring around the road cuts looking for fossils.

I am fastidious about bedmaking BECAUSE I sleep with another human. When that human is out of town, I am indifferent. In other words, I genuinely don’t care, but try to be considerate. (Although if I’m out of bed for more than five minutes anytime after about five a.m., the bed is made for me by said human, so it’s only on rare occasions when he gets up earlier that I have to bother.)

Not sure whether they class as a “concert”

As a kid my uncle was in an Operatic Society and persuaded me to audition for “The king and I” dispite having no performing experiance, got there and found almost everyone else was of Oriental descent and all the perants were talkinging about their singing in various cathedral choirs or competitions. Much to my surprise I was selected and performed 7 shows at a theatre with a capacity of 2000.

On a couple of occasions I helped processing responses immediately after a Billy Graham crusade (which took place “back stage”). Most nights one of the “performers” (people who came on stage before Billy Graham) would come by, most notably had Cliff Richard sing a couple of songs to the 150 or so of us.

I don’t make the bed. I also don’t kick the covers off so everything looks about the same when I wake up. If the sheets were pulled out of the foot of the bed I would have to remake the bed. In fact if the sheets somehow get pulled out during the night I have to get up and fix them.

I sleep with cats but not, these days, with another human. I wouldn’t call my bedmaking (described above) as either “fastidious” or “very lax”. Didn’t vote. (I have slept on surfaces not far from scree, but not at all recently.)

I tuck in sheets and blankets and the top throw (which is usually an easy-to-wash sheet) at the foot of the bed but not at the sides; including not at the corners of the foot, if that description makes sense. I voted other, however spelled, because I wasn’t sure if tucking them in at the foot included the corners. If I don’t tuck them in anywhere they fall off.

I don’t tuck in sheets to the foot of the bed because I tend to overheat during the night, and I must be able to easily get my foot out as a heat snorkel to radiate the heat away from me! But that has nothing to do with having a well made bed, so I voted udder. 🙂

I’m short; I stick my feet out sideways if I’m too hot.
