I don’t really love chicken drumsticks. I love lamb, so I’ll pick up the bone to chew off all the goodness. But if i get stuck with a drumstick, I’ll just eat the parts that are easy to remove with a fork and knife. We usually buy whole chickens, and the drumsticks often end up in the stockpot. ---

Poached whole chicken is certainly a thing, and you might have been served the leg. For that matter, poached chicken thigh (including the leg) is something I’ve seen on restaurant menus. ---

When I poach chicken/parts it’s because I’m going to strip off all the meat to use in a recipe. ---

Although I do note that to improve the appearance it was either seared first, placed under a salamander _briefly_ or hit with a torch after very carefully. ---

I took the term “good restaurant” to mean white cloth tablecloths, heavy silverware, and general upscale dining. Knife and fork for just about everything (all BBQ ribs are meant to be picked up, regardless of the restaurant), In truth, when I am out for lunch, I often got for a quarter chicken, dark meat at a local fast casual mediterranean place (so roast chicken). That’s a leg, a thigh, a drumstick, and a wing. The wing gets picked up, the drumstick and thigh get cut up and eaten with a fork. It helps that the chicken is fall off the bone cooked. Lambchops properly cooked can be eaten with a knife and fork without leaving much meat behind, though as a child, we ate a lot of lamb and lambchops were always eaten by picking them up (why would you give food a handle if you didn’t intend for it to be eaten by hand?). ---

More likely it’s a salamander oven which is a high temperature broiler found in restaurants. Not an iron plate. Basically, the same function though ---

The poll doesn’t say anything about the number of candles on the cake. It’s been quite a while since anybody tried to fit a number corresponding to my age on there; but I think that every year there’s been a birthday cake (which isn’t every year) there have been candles, though sometimes the candles were rummaged out of my cupboards. – come to think of it, that might be wrong. I did get a cake in 2024, but I think no candles were involved. It was very good cake, however. ---
