I always walk on the moving sidewalks. I can still remember my first time on one – at LAX. That long corridor with the tile mosaic on the wall. It’s been in a gazillion movies, but the most memorable for me was the beginning of _Jackie Brown._ I remember it being such a modern cool walkway/corridor when I was a kid, but now it’s nostalgia instead. ---

In the elevator if I’m going up one floor I stand in front of the door so I can get out. If I’m going up multiple floors I stand back so other people can get in. ---

The elevator I ride the most has me entering on one side and exiting on the other. There is a mirror on the one side, opposite the panel with the buttons. So if I want to check my appearance, I’ll stand along the wall across from the mirror. And since a lot of elevators have mirrors, my decision about where to stand may depend on whether or not there is a mirror and whether or not I feel I should check my appearance. It also depends on what I’m going to do when I get off the elevator. If I need a key or badge, I’ll be digging in my pockets or purse to find the key or badge, and I won’t really be paying attention, so I’ll just end up in the middle. I do tend to watch the floor display though. So that might be my first priority when choosing where to stand. ---

I had to be there to push the button for the floor that I want, and if I’m the only one in there I’ll probably stay more or less in that position. If somebody else gets in, I’ll move back, so that they can get at the controls and select their floor. ---

I can’t remember the last time I was in an elevator. Probably when I was in a hotel, so I had luggage to content with and that affected where I stood. ---

I have to use elevators frequently. I station myself near the door and the controls. I need to be able to smash that emergency call button if needed. I was trapped for a half hour in a hospital elevator years ago. I need to feel somewhat in control. Well as much as one can in an elevator. ---

I don’t see all that many elevators with mirrors, but a _lot_ of them have polished steel or brass walls that function pretty much the same as mirrors. I also like to stand near the control buttons, so I can hold the door open for people, if needed. ---

As a courier I’m in elevators all the time, usually with a loaded dolly. One thing I would like to pound into people’s heads is that “like a gun, an elevator is always loaded.” In other words, assume that there are people inside. Stand back from the doors and let them off. ---

I rarely use paper plates and don’t really know. I suppose it would depend on the trash receptacle – will they easily fit without folding? ---

I don’t ever fold them. I keep them flat and slide them along the side of the trash can so they take up as little room as possible. ---

In my experience, they go in more efficiently flat than puffed up with a fold. But obviously if the opening is weird, you’d have to fold it. ---

If the plate is full of crumbs or other spillable food debris, I’ll usually fold it in half and then in half again, to contain said waste as I transport it to the trash can. Otherwise, it will go into the garbage vertically along the inside wall of the receptacle. ---

Paper plates go in the green bin, not the trash. But I never use them, so “other.” ---

The stairs are climate controlled. I don’t get wet when it rains nor does my form-fitting spider suit have much in the way of winter insulation.
