I did 6 push-ups and quit. Afterwards I got the idea for the poll. I bet I could do 10 if you gave me a quarter. mmm ---

How much time do I have to do these push-ups? In a single instance, I can do at least 25. 50 is high, but I could get there. ---

While I was able to easily pick 8 sandwiches that I like from the second round, I was disappointed the cubano didn’t make the cut. ---

My MIL lives in rural Indiana and lives in a custom built straw-bale house heated by a central fireplace. She owns about 50 acres, mostly forest, and can freely fell trees for fuel as needed. She pays a neighbor to cut one down every year or two and chopped into big chunks that still need to be split into proper firewood. I’ve been going out there every fall for the last few years to do the splitting for her. It’s kind of fun. I can do it with an axe, or she has a [smart splitter](https://www.amazon.com/Logosol-Smart-Splitter-14-Ton-Manual-Splitter/dp/B000G8OXPY) that she used to use herself that I can use. I do it about 50/50. ---

I didn’t literally put the axe through my foot, but the last time I split firewood I badly injured my back. It was more than year before I felt completely recovered from it. I don’t split firewood anymore. ---

I used to split firewood like a goddammed pro. Once we were winter camping, I had chosen my camp poorly, so I just stayed up all night splitting wood and keeping a fire going. At my age and health problems I could not do. ---

I always got roast beef and cheese at the Italian sub place. But if you want meatballs you have to ask for meatballs. I expect “Italian” to be cold cuts. I didn’t pick crab cake, because they always taste like peppers and bay seasoning to me, not like crab. (I like crab.) But I was sad that lobster rolls got no love. I had to look up [Croque monsier](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croque_monsieur), but it looks like it’s just a grilled ham and cheese, which i quite like. So I voted for it. ---

As a vegetarian (sort of) I’m insulted there aren’t more options for me. Eggplant parmigiana is a frequent visitor to my sandwich board. For the poll I did select hamburger, assuming a veggie variety is acceptable for our purposes. But is a hamburger a sandwich? We have already determined that a hot dog is or isn’t, I forget which but that debate has come and gone. I wouldn’t have voted for it either way. ---

Hey, another vegetarian! Because I have a compulsive need to answer polls, I voted for the ones I either like in a vegetarian version (I make an excellent “cheesesteak” with seitan and mushrooms) or that I liked in the early 80’s when I was still eating meat. I couldn’t vote for the hamburger, though, _because it’s not a sandwich._ For what seemed like decades but was actually two winters in the aforementioned early 80’s, we depended on a woodstove for heat because we couldn’t afford our gas bill otherwise. We tried to split enough wood on the weekends to last us all week, but I ended up having to at least split kindling after work two or three weekdays. I was excellent at it then, but I suspect that between lack of practice and a wonky left shoulder, I would not be great now. But I still know **how** to do it. ---

I can split firewood fairly well, especially if the wood is nice, dry hardwood. We have a small wood shed filled pretty full, but I haven’t bothered with the fireplace in years. Any small trees I fell go onto our perpetual bonfire, which gets lit anytime there’s sufficient material and no wind. Once the bonfire is done burning, another bonfire is begun. ---

For me, an Italian sandwich has to contain Italian cold cuts. I voted ‘traditional’ Philly cheesesteak but, having lived in Reading, liked their variant: thin marinara, grilled onions, and provolone. Sport peppers optional. My two go-to pizzas are Canadian bacon (or ham) and sliced tomato, and pepperoni and black olive. The former was offered at an independent pizza place in Mountain View and called Iditarod, then changed to Yukon presumably because not enough people knew the old name. I find pep and black olive better than the traditional mushroom, the olives being more assertive than the mushes when paired with pepperoni. When Luis Gonzales was playing for the Diamondbacks an article mention he’d have a pepperoni and _green_ olive pizza delivered to the club house at end of game. Tried it; didn’t like it. Honestly though, I’ll eat any kind of pizza but Hawaiian.
