They’ll tell you. Even if you just asked directions to the library. As for the Art, the public seeing it and having it safe is what matters to me. I’m sure any number of patrons of the Huntington would love to have me over for dinner and the like. ---

You have no idea how many other vegans you’ve met who didn’t tell you about it. Especially if you just asked directions to the library – or if you had any other sort of interaction with them that didn’t involve your finding out that they were declining an animal product, and your demanding to know why. ---

Yeah, i know a few vegans. And even the most adamant wouldn’t mention it if you asked for direction to the library. And none of them are unpleasant about it. One hosted a Chinese banquet in honor of her husband’s 80th birthday party, and she served meat to everyone except herself. ---

It was always obvious fairly quickly. Okay maybe not jerks, fine- but loud and proud. I have been surprised by “I don’t eat pork” “I am a vegetarian”, etc etc. ---

They didn’t tell you that all the food for everyone needed to be vegan, did they?) ---

It’s almost corn season. I like to husk them, wrap them tightly in foil with butter and salt, and put them on the grill over indirect heat for about twenty minutes. ---

I like to soak corn (in the husks) in water, then put it on a hot grill. Remove and serve in 10 minutes. ---

I’ve grilled corn two or three times but nowadays my usual method is sous vide. I cook it with the butter in the bag. It’s heavenly; by far the best method I’ve ever used. ---

Janice and Floyd Pepper are tied for my favourite members of the Electric Mayhem, followed closely by Zoot. Dr. Teeth is OK as a frontman, but I find him too flashy. Lips has been boring and nondescript, so I like that they tried to give him some semblance of a personality (and unique manner of speaking) for the recent Disney+ series. I don’t understand the love for Animal. ---

I usually boil/steam corn that’s already been shucked, and don’t grill it. But I’ve grilled it a couple of times. I cooked it entirely on the grill, soaked in the husk, then shucked and grilled a little more. But it wasn’t nearly as good as the grilled corn i had in Japan, so I’m curious how others do it. (And i like my corn without butter, if the corn is good.) ---

The second one is kind of obnoxious, if they were commenting out of the blue on what you were eating. As a response to being offered beef jerky, it’s entirely reasonable. – I don’t generally grill anything. For sweet corn, I get a large pot of water boiling, drop the husked/shucked/whatever corn in, and take it back out again a minute or two later. I’d probably say husk; but I recognize shuck. Didn’t vote in that one. ---

I only use real charcoal, so that is how i do corn on the cob. But I do love grilling and if there is corn, I do grill it, but the combo is not common. (I usually grill 2-3 tri-tips at once, leaving us with lunch meat for a week) ---

Good grilled corn is a thing of beauty, poorly grilled corn is a savage assault against food. Which is true of almost any raw ingredient. 🙂 I got rid of my grill years ago, especially since my wife doesn’t eat meat, so grilling for one (yes, you can grill veggies and tofu, but it isn’t the same of course) wasn’t worth the cleaning and upkeep. So I don’t grill corn any more, although if I have a hankering for something similar (hot, dry heat options) you can do a credible job in an air fryer depending on the size of the cob and the fryer. Otherwise, I generally steam corn in a colander using a large pot of water. ---
