On the TV show thread polls: I don’t purposely open the thread until I’ve watched the latest episode. But often I’m not paying attention to when a new episode airs, and I see the “new posts” notification and unthinkingly open it. So I always appreciate when the first post about a new episode is clearly marked. On the second poll, I voted for no blurring assuming you’re talking about shows that release each episode weekly. If all episodes drop at the same time, I prefer blurring spoilers. ---

I read TV show threads, and I couldn’t care less about spoilers. But I believe in blurring them, because otherwise there are folks around here who will absofuckinglutely lose their shit over anything even remotely spoilery, even if the work in question is 500 years old. ---

It all depends on the show, of course. With some shows- Survivor for example- finding who got voted out kinda ruins watching it. With others, no big deal. ---

I fully agree with hiding spoilers in threads like “movies I’ve seen” because most people who read the thread haven’t seen a particular movie. But for a thread dedicated to discussing a particular show, what’s the point of blurring spoilers? People know what show is being discussed. What are they hoping to discuss about the latest episode if they haven’t seen it? ---

For selling a prised possession, it makes a difference to me what the buyer was going to do with it. If it would be similarly cherished then I would sell for a fair price. I they wanted to burn it or run over it with a tank, no amount of money would get me to sell. (If they feigned sincerity but then destroyed it or gave/sold it to someone who did, I would feel bad and despair the state of humanity.) ---

We saw dipshit back in 2016 on the campaign trail, and let me tell you, it was way more awful than we were expecting. It wasn’t just his inability to stop the diarrhea of his narrative, it was the people we were surrounded by and their ugliness. I voted don’t go. ---

Regarding the “no love lost between them” poll, the factoid I saw was about the supposed different usages between Americans and other English speakers. (Things like Americans saying trunk or gas when other English speakers say bonnet or petrol.) One of the examples they gave was that in the UK the phrase “No love lost between them” is understood to mean two people hate each other. But according to this factoid “many Americans” mistakenly think it means the two people love each other. The theory offered was that no amount of love has been lost between these two people so their love for each other is absolute. Cute theory but I’m an American and I’ve never heard anybody use the phrase that way. But I wanted to check if maybe it was some regional thing I hadn’t encountered. ---

Emergency kit-wise, I carry blankets, winter clothing, a basic medical kit, a tire inflater, and a portable battery/phone charger with flashing light capability. It’s not really a “kit”, and I do not have roadside flares, emergency drink/rations, or roadside reflective signage. I voted other. mmm ---

Regarding the emergency kit, we have spare glasses for each of us, a wind-up flashlight and a reflective triangle and hi-vis vest. I voted no as I don’t really consider it an emergency kit. We normally drive short distances (less than 30 minutes) and are rarely in remote areas. ---

I don’t have an emergency kit as such. I have, in various places throughout the car, most but not all of the items usually recommended for such kits, and some things that usually aren’t in them. Also voted other. ---

That qualities as a “kit” to me. We do carry some water, but hardly any food- SoCal gets HOT, and it would go bad. ---

I carry two kits in the car - one automotive, one bug-out. Plus the usual fire extinguisher, battery charger, tire pump, etc. There’s also usually rain gear and a hoodie in the back seat, just because I can’t be arsed to clean back there. I wouldn’t sell my cats for any amount of money. ---

IIRC, Die\_Capacitrix is in Switzerland which is not in the EU. But, yes - the triangle and hi-viz (and more) are required in the EU. (and maybe Switzerland too !) ---

The auto kit discussion made me think of a thing I did many years ago. We celebrated our family Christmas with a drawing of names for the gift exchange. We also provided suggestions for what we might want to receive. I drew my brother-in-law’s names. He wanted a four-way lug wrench for each of the three cars in his family. We had a strict dollar limit we were required to adhere to, and the limit that year allowed for only two of the wrenches. So, he received three packages. The first two had a wrench in each, the third gift was a large reflective sign that read “Need a Lug Wrench”. mmm ---
