Felt this would happen eventually, what with the rise of superhero popularity. Disney was the logical choice. Them or Viacom. Will Disney still license movies to other studios or treat them as proprietary through Disney/Marvel Films? I think TW’s exclusive Warner Bros. policy stifles the output and creativity of DC films. ---

According to the Washington Post Disney is purchasing Marvel Entertainment. The Mouse is going superhero! I, for one, welcome our new overlords and hope for a She-Hulk comedy movie. If this interferes in any way with Marvel Studios’ in-progress plan for an Avengers movie, there will be a nerd outrage not seen since Wesely Crusher was introduced. The only good I can see coming from this is that maybe, just maybe Disney would have enough money or power to wrangle the Spider-Man license away from Sony/Universal pictures. ---

I hope Marvel gets 'hold of Disney comics now. They’re decent, but not noticeably different from 60 years ago. I would _love_ to see new adventure-themed Uncle Scrooge stories written by the guys at Marvel. Not that Don Rosa doesn’t do a good job, but let’s shake things up a little. Hell, I would like to see new (_slightly new_ - I’m not talking _Loonatics_ new) takes on Mickey, Donald, Goofy, et al. Those characters are in big danger of becoming irrelevant. ---

I have no idea how this is going to shake out. It’s going to come down to how Disney treats Marvel. If they think the company retains its value by generating IP then things will continue on pretty much the same as they have before. On the other hand Disney could take one look at the publishing numbers, conclude that it’s just not worth it, and stop almost all of the publications. I can say that Disney won’t be doing any pushes to fix the comic book industry. Comic books are a few hundred million of that four billion price. I don’t foresee Disney pushing for major efforts to fix distribution and get comics to a new generation. ---

Universal [officially stated](http://wdbo.com/localnews/2009/08/universal-says-spiderman-stays.html) that Disney’s purchase of Marvel “has no impact on our guest experience” and that the Marvel characters will remain in Universal parks. ---
