Disney to lose Mickey Mouse?

I assume Disney did not object to anything South Park did.

When I was at Bell Labs the only changes the lawyer made to my papers was to ensure I wrote “UNIX ™ Operating System”, not just UNIX.

Yep! Adjective, not noun or verb.

The YouTube channel LegalEagle has a video discussing the copyright and trademark issue and what Disney is doing to protect their IP (such as using Steamboat Willy as a trademark in front of all animations they make today). Fascinating, if complicated, stuff. Disney certainly will not let go easily and fighting Disney would be very expensive most likely.

I’m bumping this year-old thread to link to a commercial I’ve recently seen for one of the big personal injury law firms. The ad starts with a short segment from Steamboat Willie.

That just reinforces my belief that people love Mickey Mouse, and anyone who tries to make a quick buck off using his image will be hated.

In fact, I now hate that law firm (I never noticed the name, so had to look it up , so… not a very good ad).

It is still a Trademark, they asked for the Courts permission in a lawsuit, but didnt get it so they dropped it, and they stopped running it, but it seems Disney didnt sue.

Yeah, i get what you mean, It was cheap.

The ad is still running where I live, in St. Louis.

Same here in Connecticut. I only mentioned it because I saw the Morgan & Morgan commercial in the past few days.
