Disney won't let Miramax distribute "Fahrenheit 911"!

Yeah, they were the ones that refused to distribute The Passion of the Christ!!!

I went to the New York Times site and registered to access the Op-Ed pages, which were down, to cite some editorial/opinion pieces concerning Passion.

If anyone here is actually pissed about Moore’s being denied a distribution from Disney, you must also know about Gibson being denied the same. He put up his own money. And Moore saying it’s because Disney wants a tax break in Florida? Hate to break it to you, but he’s paying so much in California, that the difference in distributors won’t make a difference.

Accept 2 things, Universal/Vivendi (French owned) will most likely pick this up and Moore makes so much more money than us that he is gaining big-time from the tax cut. (According to him and the other Hollywood millionaires that can afford homes around the world). Go saviors of the working-class!

Oh, hey Mikey, just a thought. The tax cut is not mandatory. You are allowed to refuse any refund and donate extra to your tax bill! Of course, you, Striesand, Baldwin, et al seem to forget this little fact every April. Guess owning those mansions across the globe can distract. My bad.

Next post, a cite that makes the profit of Bowling for Columbine a laughingstock.

Here’s the cite.

$580 million so far! On a $55 million budget. All paid for by Gibson because nobody would distribute it. I can, again, try to get the cites, but if you really think this is censorship, you would’ve heard of this already. Plus, the total isn’t counting the pirated copies of the movie that are even available in Peru! Keep in mind, the number will only go up once the DVD is available to the Western World-Bad Place (Copyright-Trademark- All rights reserved).

Yes, I’ll get the cites for those so pissed they haven’t had time to read a newspaper.

The New York Times is pissed that Moore’s shit isn’t carried by a major studio, yet the Editorial page spouted oh so many articles about the reasons not to see The Passion

That’s funny, I thought Newmarket was distributing it. Or do you mean financing? This idea that no one would touch the movie is getting tiresome.

Under distributor notes:

One of the reasons that Mel made the movie independantly is the same reason George Lucas is making his new Star Wars films entirely with private money – complete creative control.

Damn! :smack:
Forgot to bring up that not only did all major distributor’s reject the movie out of hand, there were “high-level” Hollywood exec’s that said Gibson would never get work with them because of the movie.

Yes, I know cites are important, and I will try to get them. But anyone that followed the Passion uproar knows of them. I promise to link them when the servers are are working right.

What has that got to do with anything?

Have a look at Raygun’s last post. Alot of the the top distributors were interested in distributing it. Gibsom paid for it himself to ensure he had creative control.

I am curled in the fetal position under my desk at the prospect of not being allowed to savor every morsel of truth and divine wisdom from the brilliant Michael Moore. Curse you, Disney! Who but Saint Michael will shine the light of truth upon the unenlightened masses and spur them to righteous action against the evil Republicans and their corporate puppetmasters?

Mel Gibson paid for it all out of his pocket. Icon productions is his baby. I hope you’re not arguing that point. Like I said, no cite yet, but I will do what I can to get it out there.

My main point was that the NY Times (among a myriad of others) hammered Passion and mocked the fact that some might want to see it. In fact the NY Times in their editorials/Op-Ed’s/Reviews told people why NOT to see The Passion because they said it was Anti-Semite. Yet they failed to decry the trouble of getting this movie to regular distribution.

I saw somewhere else that Gibson, with partners, is being courted to join a group to buy Disney now that Comcast is out of the running. Need that cite? Come to think of it, there are many here that can find these claims faster than me. And next years membership fee is on me to those that can.

I’ll try, but I know that “future cites” piss people off. So either bear with me, or earn a free year.

I realize you’re probably trying to call me out, but you know damn well what that means. Twist, I have faith that you are smart enough to get the reference.

Humour me. What does it mean?

Oh, Evil One, you may not know that I tend to get the feathers of liberals ruffled here. (Though you’d be the last). Trust me, while I agree with your posts for the most part, you do not want to be associated with me. The cabal will just chew you up if they think you have anything to do with my ideology. Tell your friends, duffer is the unemployed billionaire monitoring every woman’s uterus while counting the taxes I’m saving compared to Michael “Too fat to bitch about hunger” Moore.

Duffer, Mel Gibson called. He wants you to play the martyr in “The Passion of the Christ 2: Judgement Day”.

Did you enjoy the sarcasm, duffer?

The only negative about this move by Disney is that it increases Moore’s profile. I do find him amusing at times, however. Especially when he is under the illusion that his opinion is reflected by the majority.

To reference your other point, it does seem like having a right of center opinion is like swimming upstream around these parts. But since our board brethren surely must value diversity, I take comfort that our opinions are welcomed and encouraged.

Hey, duffer, try to keep up here.

I never asked you for a cite, i have never even mentioned The Passion in this thread, and the post that you responded to was directed at someone else and was addressing a completely different issue.

Again, no cite yet. But anyone so worked up over this should know the story of the movie. Mel Gibson produced this under the Icon studio name. He started that studio, ergo, he paid for all costs out of pocket. (No, the studio didn’t front the money. Kind of a gamble, considering the negative press he knew he’d encounter. Mel isn’t an idiot, no matter what beliefs you disagree with.) The rhetoric of Mel being anti-Semite was hilariously pointed out by “journalists” saying his dad was Anti-Semite (copyright-Trademark-All Rights Reserved)

I’ll scour the archives to cite this. But if you really care enough about it, you’ll concede this (and have seen the articles I’m referring to) The New York Times ran many articles denouncing Passion and those who watch it as anti-Semites. Plus support of major distributor’s. Check the review archives, I can’t do it all people! (though, I admittedly haven’t done much yet) shrug

Paging Abraham Foxman. Oh, wait, he didn’t have anything to do with the problems with the release of The Passion, just the little fact of **condemming the movie before he saw it. **

Again, any of the above will be cited for those living in caves. Just give me a few moments.

What the hell are you talking about, you muldoon?

I asked you why you mentioned that Vivendi was French, and you come out with this crap?

Love sarcasm. I tend to have a Monty Python-sense of humor. I also tend to take Moore as seriously as I take Holy Grail as a history of European history.

But to be honest, if I meet Moore IRL, he better have some good jokes to make me forget to punch him. I really want to show him how the “real” angry American feels about him purporting to represent me. Considering I don’t make millions a year, it may be interesting. I’m still wondering if he had his accountant look for all the tax savings he could get. I mean, you are allowed to forego tax breaks and pay more than expected. (Hey Mike, this means give up the tax cut). Hell, he likes to say it benefits the rich, he’s rich, so by God he should be refusing the gains, right?
Right?

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to kill yet more hampsters. I try to condense posts, but then this comes along.

If you don’t get the connection to the French, just let it go. But I suspect you know what I meant.

Cannes Film Festival is in France, right? Michael Moore is an American-hating “documentarian”, right?

Shit, where was that Vivendi-Universal link going, anyway?

disclaimer- last time I checked Passion France was listed like 3rd worldwide for ticket sales

I might just buy another bottle of Drakkar-Noir

Yes, this was very snarky, but I’ve been boycotting France since last year. (Don’t like it? Buy 2 of everything French to show me up) Hell, my wife wanted to buy a new Nissan, but since a French company owns Nissan, we went Chrysler.

I still buy Drakkar. It smells good. (Jeff Gordon rules) . NASCAR fans will understand that one.

Stop it. Now you’re just embarrassing yourself.
