# Dispute on credit report

Running my annual credit report, I saw an item that was sent to collections that I already paid on time.

After I paid the invoice, I received another bill. I called the company and they saw the bill was paid in full on time. The 2nd notice was sent out in error.

Then today, I saw they filed a collections action against me.

I filed a dispute and attached the canceled check along with a copy of the bill. I faxed it over to Equifax with the request form.

How long does it generally take for it to be taken off the credit report?

Not long in my experience. All of the ones I have disputed have been deleted permanently in less than a few days and most within 24 hours. I believe it can take longer but usually doesn’t.
