I occasionally watch DIVX movies on my computer, using either windows media player or the Divx veiwer.

The problem is that with many of the movies I watch(using both players), it usually ends up getting out of sync after no more then a minute,so that the sound is ahead of the visual by several seconds. The only way I’ve found to compenstate this is to keep moving the little progress bar at the bottom, so it’s automatically synced up again. Started and stopping does nothing, but moving it automaticlly resyncs it.

Any idea how I can stop this?

As far as I know, I’m using the most recent codecs.

Use the DivX Playa that comes with the codec. That probably will work.

It’s likely that your computer is too slow for the resolution of the movie you are trying to play. I would use VirtualDub to re-encode the movie at a lower resolution to see if it helps.

**Baraqiyal** got it right. Your computer is too slow. Had the same problem. But I would think that re-encoding it would take too long and be too much of a hassle.

Most likely **Baraqiyal** is right. I had the same problem as you did, so I tried them on a friend’s much faster computer and the problem was fixed. My computer is pretty old, and rickety, in case you were wondering.

I don’t know what version of Divx you are using so I assume it is the newest version. What version of Windows are you using?

There are several things you can do to make DIVX playback better. Now if your computer is really old, none of these will help, but you could at least try them.

1. Go into the properties page for the DIVX codec and disable Postprocessing and film effect. You can adjust the film effect/post processing levels by clicking on the start menu \> programs \> DivX \> DivX codec \> Decoder configuration.

2. Use a better player. Go to start menu \> run \> mplayer2. Hopefully the older (and much better) version of Windows Media Player will show up. Try using it with the post-processing-disabled DIVX codec and load up a movie. If it works you can associate it with movie files. If you don’t have an older version of Media Player you can download a 3rd-party program called Media Player Classic. You can Google for it.

3. Use ffdshow as a decoder instead of DIVX. You can find this pretty easily on Google and IIRC it painlessly installs itself. You may have to go to its property page and disable postprocessing (just make sure all the boxes on the left are unchecked).
