DIY breaking & entering, or: Help! I locked my keys in my car!

If all else fails, just get a rabid st. bernard to hit the window a few times.

What? It worked in Cujo…

My first car was an Audi Fox. Whenever I locked the keys in the car, I took the coat hanger off its normal position of holding the trunk closed, tapped the passenger window so it would fall down two inches, and no problem!

My current car is a Saturn. About two weeks after I bought the car, I received in the mail a mini-key that fits in my wallet that only works on the door locks. I thought (and still think) that was cool.

I’m not familiar with your car, but when I was younger and dumber, I used to routinely lock my keys in my '85 Mazda GLC. The first time it happened, it was a gas station. The gas station attendant used a Slim Jim. The Slim Jim doesn’t have to touch the lock switch you normally operate; instead it operates the lock mechanism inside the door itself. All you have to do is slide it into the lower window seal and move it around and up and down until you hit the lock mechanism inside. With practice, I could accomplish the same thing with a hangar. I got so I could break into my car just about as fast as using the keys!

Besides gas stations, police sometimes carry Slim Jims in their cars.
