Do all English mayors wear this golden necklace-looking thing?

Off topic

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.

Thank you, I meant to say that explicitly and then… didn’t.

It’s not just mayors.. local parish council chairpersons get to wear
a chain of office too.

In the musical Les Miserables when Javert sings M’sieur le Maire’, You’ll wear a different chain he Is implying that Valjesn will exchange his chain of office for convict’s chains. Not sure if that means that mayors in France at one time wore chains of office or if it was poetic license.

I too misread the title as “Do all English majors wear this golden necklace-looking thing?” and thought, well, that’s one way to combat falling enrollments in the arts and humanities. Sadly, we will need other methods.

Me, too, and it made me jealous. I was an English major, and I never got a fancy necklace!

But you get to wear those robes and funny hats at the graduation ceremony, don’t you?

Just had a check - in Germany, mayors have a similar chain, but in France and Italy they wear a tricolour sash.
