Whammo, that is so cool. I work at a cemetery, and it seems like I’ve posted this information many times before. Not trying to beat my own drum, but yes, my job is pretty cool. It’s a really old cemetery. And there aren’t any complaints from the customers. Plus, my boss is literally crazy. ---

Its a LIE people!!! sheesh… 😉 **there… that should throw off the irs in case the’re reading this** My coolest job was just over 10 years ago straight out of highschool. I worked in building Christmas displays… You know those Christmas displays that you drive through that are made of lights and have animated figures and things. I helped develop one of the first. For those of you in the Kansas City Missouri area have you ever gone through the Longview Lake “Christmas in the Park”? Its one of the drive through Christmas displays. I worked on that the first year it was out… I helped to build and develop it. Also helped build the same displays for sites around the country and actually delivered via diesel and helped supervise setup for the Minneapolis/St Paul zoo and the River Walk shopping area just outside of Dallas (forget the name of the city at the moment… spanish name… Los Callinas???) ---

I manage a knife store in an uptown mall. I get paid (ocasionally) to play with sharp objects for 8 hours a day. Among, of course, the traditional kitchen knives and gadgets, I get to show people (among other things) swords, tactical folding and fixed knives, throwing knives, and a really sweet throwing axe. I can also sharpen knives to a razor sharp edge, as proven by the many scars on my hands when I drop them. It’s a bad job to have as a butterfingers. Sometimes people bring their knives to show me. I’ve seen some pretty cool looking, and sometimes very illegal, stuff. I also know how to wield a broadsword. Beat THAT one! ---

Well it would be if I was getting paid for it. Archaeology is pretty damn cool though and it’s what I’m trained to do and have wanted to do since I was like 9. Oh well. I’m the media buyer for a Native American casino. Not the coolest, perhaps…but VERY fun. I also coordinate/help write the radio spots I buy time for. Not cool, you say? Here’s the good part: I get to talk to a lot of the agents of the acts we book in our music venue, and sometimes, even the artists themselves 🙂 I got to meet: Joan Jett Ted Nugent Loretta Lynn Mickey Thomas (Starship) The guys from Badfinger, Foghat, Kansas Robert Palmer Buncha other smaller/regional acts also. I love my job! P.S.: Even MORE cool, I’m also a daddy to two beautiful girls. Thrash ---

I’m probably the only person on this board who would think my job is cool\*, but I like it. After manny years of having (with a partner) my own company, about nine months ago I went to work for a much larger outfit (4th largest drilling company in the U.S.). We work 40 hour weeks, no more; something anybody who’s been independent can appreciate. They pay me a bit more than twice what I made running my own company and I don’t have to sweat administrative bullshit anymore. I just do what I do. Which is explore. The official policy is that, after the morning meeting (yeah, I can live with a little corporate stuff), nobody is allowed to talk to me until afternoon, so I can jam with the data. I don’t really have an onsite boss; we’re a 7 person division of a large, public company. We do have a division head who is my peer, and he’s a friend I’ve known and worked with for years. I spend every Christmas Eve with his family and his wife is one of my best friends (I’ll leave that for y’all to figure out). Our boss is ~700 miles away and I talk to him on the phone once or twice a week and he comes to spend a day with us every 3 or 4 weeks. He thinks I kick ass. Sure, there’s some pressure to produce, but we’ve been knocking them out of the park, and I expect to be able to keep that up for a bit. So, yeah, I’ve glossed over a bit of the politics that were never a part of other jobs I’ve had - it’s still five or six years until I might be in contention for the final tier - so, while it is there, it doesn’t weigh heavily right now. _They pay me well to do what I am good at (finally!) without a lot of bullshit and no overtime_. But, no, I’m not a secret agent or a masseur to the stars. I did work as a drummer and a cabdriver - those jobs were sorta cool. - definitely in the mind of the beholder. ---

I get to go to court and argue interesting cases. Now and then, I get to go to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. I think it’s cool. (Although there’s a lot of grunge work in between the highlights. I’ve also appeared in Traffic Safety Court.) ---

Finally, my chance to brag… For all of 2000, I was editor in chief of the nation’s largest college newspaper,[The State News](http://www.statenews.com). It’s also one of the best. We beat the local professional paper, which is pretty large, on a regular basis last semester. I also worked 50 hour weeks, which I’m glad to be done with. But I miss the place and the people A LOT. **Catrandom** , are you a newspaper copy editor? If so, where? Oh, and I have a cool job starting in February. I get to work in the Washington bureau of a major newspaper, covering politics and the like. Woo-hoo! ---
