Fish can get sunburned. It can be a problem in fish hatcheries with open rearing ponds and no shade.

humans are one of only a few species that don’t have enough protection “built in” through scales, fur, exoskeleton, shells, etc.

Well, we do have melanin which gives us resistance. People are darker near the equator for sun-related reasons.
