I have a Marlin Model 9 Camp Carbine that’s a fun little gun within it’s limits. Shoots the same 9mm ammo as my pistol.

[See one here](http://www.gunblast.com/Marlin-Camp9.htm)

> In fact, “long gun chambered for a pistol cartridge” is one definition of the word “Carbine” ( the other definition is just “short version of rifle X”)
>
> .45 Colt (AKA long colt) and .357 magnum are traditional cowboy rounds that work well in six shooters and lever action rifles. And there are numerous manufacturers of each. There are lots of .44 magnum examples too. Puma/Rossi chambers a model 92 rifle in .454 Casull, a magnumized 45 colt intended for strong revolvers.
>
> 9mm .40 S&W and 45 ACP all have one or a few models of long guns available. But these are far less popular than the examples above, and a couple examples of the 9mm have ceased production.
>
> All of the above are rifles chambered for handgun cartridges. There are lots of examples of “hand cannons”…handguns chambered for rifle rounds. The Magnum Research BFR is a 5 shot revolver chambered in .45-70 gov. Lots of rifle cartridges are/have been chambered in the single shot TC contender pistol.

The Biggest & Finest Revolver (BFR) by Magnum Research has a new chambering;

> The long cylinder BFR is now chambered in the .30-30 Winchester. In a 10-inch barrel length, with mild recoil, it is the ideal Whitetail revolver!
>
> For the BFR .45/70 or .450 Marlin… A second cylinder of the other caliber for just an additional $150.00 (sorry this will only work on BFR revolvers with serial number starting with “JT”). Now you can have the best of both worlds…

I could stand having one in 30WCF;)

I have an [Olympic Arms](http://www.olyarms.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/ar15-carbines/full-k9-gl.jpg) AR-15. Not only does it use the same caliber ammo as my Glock pistol, it also uses the same magazines!!🆒

There are also AR’s that are .45 caliber that accept 1911 pistol mags.

[Kel-Tec](http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/sub2000.htm) has the same kind of set up with their Sub2000 rifle. You can get them in 9mm & 40, and they have models that use Glock, Taurus/Beretta, Smith & Wesson, and Sig Sauer pistol mags.

Or you could just buy 2 of the same kind of handgun and [convert](http://www.mechtechsys.com/) one to a carbine.

The submachine gun is defined by its chambering in pistol calibers. The reason for such a weapon is that it will not suffer from recoil as severely as a handgun will, thus keeping the weapon on target, in addition to higher muzzle velocity and better performance due to the longer barrel.

It also had the added benefit of having the longarm and sidearm in the same calibers, eliminating the need to carry different types of ammunition for each, and in some cases both were capable of using the same magazine.

Of course, this depends upon whether or not you consider a submachine gun to be a rifle. I do.

And as usual, my state has it’s collective head up it’s butt.

From the link.

> Our product is not a firearm by legal definitions. The product is for sale to California residents under limited conditions. Although the product itself is legal, as we understand things, the resulting combination with a pistol frame becomes illegal under California law. If you are a CA resident you should be aware of this and it is your responsibility to observe CA laws. At this time we know of no other States where the combination is not legal but we caution everyone to become aware of relative state and local laws. We are not attorneys and can give no meaningful advice on these matters.
