Thank you. I think that is incredibly flimsy “evidence”. It is hard to believe anyone would actually bring that forward as proof positive that “the Bible says”. Especially since you can’t get any flat earth model to property explain seasons. And those are also an biblical requirement. ---

The Bible also says something about the Earth being round; in Isaiah 40:22 “It is he [God] who sits above the circle of the earth.” I have heard it argued (by young earth creationists, no less) that the Hebrew word translated ‘circle’ would be more properly understood to mean ‘sphere’ or ‘roundness’, but I think that was wishful thinking on their part (as I understand it, it’s more like ‘inscribed circle’ or something). ---

I was going to mention that. It’s pretty clear that the Bible authors thought the cosmos was just a shell around the earth, and eg stars could fall out of it. Funny how fundamentalists can handwave such things as being poetic / figurative, but can’t budge on the garden of Eden. ---

In terms of true believers, maybe Austin whitsitt? He seems sincere enough, and, last I checked, he’s going to Antarctica and will concede that the earth is a globe if he sees a 24 hour sun. ---

(Here I go again.) From Matthew 4: "Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” It takes a flat Earth to see all the kingdoms of the world. I once saw a scan of an old poster that had all around the margins of bunch of Bible cites that “proved” the Earth was flat. There was quite a few of them. How absurd FE is so easy to show. Go out at night watch the stars. If you look north, they are turning counterclockwise. If you look south they are turning clockwise. FEs can not explain that without spouting absolute gibberish, let alone provide equations in their model that predict the motion. Throw in the phases of the Moon, eclipses, the seasons, actual day/night in any sensical way, etc. ---

The problem with this, and with pretty much any refutation of flerfish nonsense, is that it requires the observer to keep several concepts or thoughts in their head simultaneously, just for long enough to put them together. If you try this, you will find the first concept or observation has fallen out of their head while you are talking about or demonstrating the second. It’s the same reason there is no requirement for any kind of broad consistency to their nonsense - they don’t need a unified theory; they only need a collection of unrelated and often-contradictory _pieces_ of argument that they can burp out one at a time, to derail any discussion about how the world actually looks or works. ---

I’ve said this before, but I grew up Mormon and believed the world was 6,000 years old, despite whatever science said. My uncle was a professor in the engineering department of a well-known university and still is a young earther. All that engineering and science training go right out the door when it comes faith. I don’t know what inspired flat earthers, but ISTM that irrational beliefs such as this are more like a religious faith. ---
