Do I have any recourse for a fraudulent check?

I can’t know all the police departments in the world (only most of them), but I’ve had experience with people passing bad checks and while the police officer that takes your report may genuinely not care in most larger agencies there is a division (sometimes maybe it’s just one guy, in really small departments it may not exist as a separate division) that basically exclusively tracks down small scale white collar crimes like this.

Considering probably 30% of the people from my High School graduating class have check fraud convictions I don’t think it’s actually that rare for the police to follow up on it. It’s just something that tends to get passed on to a different office that probably has a 2-3 foot thick case load that they are slowly working through, but people do tend to get caught.

I was being a bit facetious with that 30% number, but suffice to say I know a lot of sketchy people I grew up with who were known for passing bad checks. I don’t know of a single one who was known for that and who wasn’t eventually caught (some of them multiple times to the point of doing real prison time for it.)
