It would be safest and easiest and avoid potential hassle. The bottom line is that it sort of depends on the blog – whether anything is being advertised or promoted, f’rinstance. ---

Email a mod / admin with the link and ask them. Then there can be no conflict. ---

[/QUOTE] Begging the Mods’ pardon and posting publicly for comment, but I’d suggest that ‘it needs traffic’ isn’t a particularly good reason. On the other hand, I’d suggest that something like a link to a photo-essay or a political essay or something NSFW might be appropriate. Yes, I too have a blog. No, I’m not going to link to it here. I think I’ve had less than 5 non-spam comments in 2 years. Add the spam and you’re probably up to less than 10 comments. I don’t really care. ---

You know, we’ve had threads in the past saying something like “Share your blog address” and lots of people have participated. I don’t see that the mods had any trouble with that particular thing. Maybe you could ask them if that was appropriate? I don’t see how it’s our business to drive your blog either, but sharing blogs back and forth is a bit different. ---

You can put a link to your blog in your profile. We have allowed links to such in the past for good causes – mostly charitable and the like – **otherwise the SDMB is not to be used as a means of advertising your pet projects and etc.** ---

I don’t want to link to a blog. I just want to know if any links are allowed in sigs. Like “look at my birdhouse webcam” etc. ---

For the most part, no. As a general rule we don’t want you advertising in your signature file; some benign exceptions are okay, though. ---
