We had an experience where the neighbour razed a mutual hedge to the ground for a stupid reason; I can assure you that other people taking liberties with your yard does not go over well. Well, my yard, anyway, but I’ll admit that I am very territorial.
No, no, no, no, no! She didn’t tell them to do the work; it’s as simple as that. I don’t give a rat’s patooty if she was GOING to tell them to do the work or not. The fact is, she DIDN’T tell them to do it. And they did the work anyway, believing that if they did it, she would pay the bill despite the fact she didn’t approve it.
I believe this is either a VERY SHADY business practice, bordering on fraud, and to reward it is the wrong thing to do, or it’s a lack of understanding on the part of the trimmers, in which case THEY should eat the cost. You might think it’s a nitpick, but to me it’s the principle and I’d be damned if I would pay someone to do work I never told them to do.
I started working on a website one time that I thought we had the go-ahead on, due to miscommunication by the salesperson. Did my company get paid for the work we’d done when the client decided they didn’t want it after all? Hell no. It was our fault, and we ate the cost.
When I finally hear from them and get the bill, I’ll post an update.
