Do I have to tip the Windshield installer guy?

A “World’s Best Teacher” coffee mug?

You really don’t get it. Can I guess that you’ve never changed your own oil? Depending on the damage, this guy with specialized skills you don’t even comprehend just saved your ass. He’s either going to be insulted or you’re going to be the joke of the shop when he gets back - seriously.

Oh, for crying out loud, it’s bad enough being expected to tip people for just doing their jobs, wait staff, taxi drivers, and all, but the list just keeps growing. You’re expected to tip beauticians, hotel maids, parking valets, movers, and on and on and on. What’s next? Why don’t we tip bus drivers, bank tellers, FedEx delivery people, movie ushers, and janitors while we’re at it?

Why are we supposed to make up the shortfall in low paying jobs? Just get a livable minimum wage pushed through and let’s forget about tipping “so the person will do a good job.” When was the last time a service person did such an incredible job that you were glad to hand over twenty percent more than the asking price? For me, the answer is never.

Not that I’ve never had good service. But people are supposed to do good work regardless of tip. That’s how I do my job, and no one tips me.

Oh good grief. There’s no need for the angst that’s showing up here. It was an honest question. No, there is no normal expectation of tipping. Yes, I might tip someone who did me a real solid, like coming out after his shift was over or something. It’s more likely that I would go the Pepsi in the hot sun route.

Yes, I have had to use this service. No, I did not tip.

Having to tip all the the time is annoying. Environments that encourage this, like high end hotels, make me uncomfortable. It just feels so crass to me.

You should all tip me every time I post. Or maybe tip me to NOT post. I’m good either way.

Tipping of course is up to the individual…
If you decide to tip, chat up the person providing the service beforehand and give them the tip before they start. It’s the intelligent thing to do.

I tipped my driveway sealcoaters when they arrived at my house. All three smiled broadly {they had about 15 teeth between them btw} and they did a great job on my driveway.

I consider myself a big tipper, but even saying that, the total dollar amount I dish out in tips every year versus my total yearly living expenses is miniscule. So why not make a few people happy

Yeah, I’d tip anybody who came out to my home to fix something that they didn’t break in the first place, and did a good job.

So sue me.

So you just assume the guy is a judgemental prick?

This sounds about as true as chefs spitting on your food.

Just to be clear, you don’t tip the dudes who come to your home, break stuff, then fix it, regardless of the quality of their work, correct?
