Of course, **Bricker** is right. All Republicans are not child molesters like Congressman Foley. But they will do anything to gain, hold, and keep power and money. If that means lying to start a war that will cost the lives of thousands of out troops while our real enemies laugh at us from Pakistan, then they’ll lie to start that war and the rivers of blood will flow and Osama, the murderer of thousands of Americans, will go free. If that means allowing corporations like Haliburton to rob the treasury blind instead of providing the services for our troops for which they were contracted, then they will look the other way while their rich donors get richer and our troops drink dirty water in the godforsaken desert and rig their own vehicle armor out of scrap metal. If that means voting to “legalize” torture in order to have a win to lord over their Democratic opponents and divide the country further in time of war, then by golly America will get into the torture business right next to all of those Communist and Fascist totalitarians that we fought against in the 20th Century. And if holding onto power means covering up for a pedophile in their own ranks in order to keep a House seat, then you can be sure that the Republican congressman will be free to molest young boys unmolested. Because power is the important part, not the death, not the wasted treasure, not the principles on which this great republic was founded. Power is all that matters, and they will do anything to keep it. ---

I know many of these, persons of the first water, on whom no blemish may be placed. They have only this _tiniest_ of flaws, in many cases nothing more than a surfeit of sincerity. Conversely, an abundance of wit and humor is not evidence of good character. To say the least. The violin string is voiceless without the sounding board, the bird sings because you listen. ---

Can we get back to the question of whether or not the law Foley authored was in force at the time? Remember, the instant messages (which were sexually explicit) were sent in 2003. The e-mails that were just “overly friendly” were sent in 2005. Foley’s actions are definitely wrong, but did they actually run afoul of any laws? And just to be fair to all concerned, Hastert insists that he never heard about the IM’s before last week, and doesn’t know of anyone who did. ---

Now the guy is _not_ technically a pedophile, so that term needs to be dropped here. He was another simple hypocritical closet case who was not allowed to have a normal, sanctioned relationship with another adult male (and a member of the Republican party, who used their opposition to gay marriage as a smokescreen when things were falling apart in Iraq), so ended up preying on young guys who were much less powerful and so not likely to turn him in. Along with “alcoholism,” he’s claiming “mental illness.” Denying, misplacing and feeling such shame about your orientation that you bury your feelings and then act out in such outrageously inappropriate sexual ways sure is mental illness in my book. ---
