I don’t get how someone could be this stupid. If anything, the guy should have been fired just for displaying unprecedented levels of dumbassitude. It’s past the point I can muster up outrage. I’m just astounded. It’s one (stupid) thing to engage in sexually explicit flirting with a minor. It’s another (stupid) thing to partake in such behavior with a kid who works for you. It’s another (stupid) thing to do that and be a highly visible politician at the same time. It’s another (stupid) thing to do that as a visible politician, while being a staunch proponent for measures to protect minors from sexual predation. But he didn’t quit there. Why did it never occur to him that sending all these skeevy messages electronically was not a good idea? All it would have taken is one nosy parent, one careless teen who forgot to log off the computer, or one mistaken addition to the “To:” field, and he would have been caught with his cock in hand. And did he forget how gossipy kids are, especially when they’re caught in uniquely absurd situations? If I had been that page, I would have printed those IM’s out and showed them to my friends for endless hours of laughs. Maybe that’s just me, though. ---

Over 5 years ago, an employee sent a tender romantic email to her husband from work. But she accidentally managed to get in the to: field the group \. This in a corporation with 200,000 employees over 48 states, and emails addresses to the store manager & department managers at about 1/4 of the grocery stores in the USA. The email wasn’t that bad (PG rating at best), but I still presume she was much embarassed. (Personally, I thought the IT staff who allowed such wide-ranging email groups to be set up, and allowed every single email user to access them should have been embarassed, too.) ---
