That’s a good idea. I’ll hunt around locally as well for a case. There’s a yard sale coming up and I visit estate sales regularly.

I don’t recall anyone saying that, although I did say the following:

Which should not be taken in _any_ way to mean they aren’t dangerous, and aren’t regulated at all. I agree with your point that a black powder (cap and ball or otherwise) are a fully lethal and dangerous weapon and should be treated as such at all times.

As mentioned above, there are very few restrictions in _acquiring_ one. Ownership is a separate issue, and especially use.

The Outlaw Josey Wales shows him with cap & ball.

I am pretty sure this falls under the ATF “Curio and relic” rules.

It also shows how you could speed-load a Colt 1858 cap and ball revolver: Remove the spent cylinder and swap in another pre-loaded cylinder.

Tuco, the scene where he’s at the gun shop in _The good, the bad, and the ugly_ is checking out different cap and ball pistols and mixing and matching parts. He also demands a box of metallic cartridges, which of course won’t fit. I would say it’s a fairly common error in movies, they don’t usually worry themselves too much about authenticity or accuracy or period correctness.

You don’t _have_ to follow any additional rules, it just allows you to sell to an additional type of person, FFL03 holders, by receiving a copy of their license without going through 4473 process. You aren’t obligated to sell in a particular way, you can insist on going through a third party FFL if you really want to.

Yeah, that was cool. But he also carries several revolvers.

Yeah, if you have a C&R licence, which is much easier to get that an FFL, you can get you collection by mail order.

Mind you it covers older, collectible guns only.
