Following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, there was quite of lot of “They got what they deserved for Pearl Harbor” on twitter and Facebook. Interestingly, most of the people writing it looked barely old enough to remember the first Gulf War, let along WWII.
Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd also quite a lot of gloating after that, as did many other supporters of the SS.
It’s interesting to point out that in Hawaii, for the most part, the Japanese internment was very short lived due to the fact that the islands would have starved without the Japanese population.
To this day (according to the US Census), there are more people in the state of Hawaii who are of Japanese ancestry, than of American/European ancestry.
By the way, my girl friend is Japanese, but most people here (Texas) think she is Hispanic, so it is hard to say whether her Japaneseness triggers any discrimination.
