It’s both the best _and_ the worst movie of the '70s. 😃

[The Devils](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devils_(film)) ensured that I never watched a Ken Russell film ever again.

Possibly the only film that I left feeling ill. The scene where Oliver Reed has his legs smashed is so graphic.

No other 70s film comes near to this garbage. Nor any film that I have seen from any other decade now I think about it.

But **Star Crash** has a gorgeous female lead!

What we need to talk about in this thread is [**Star _Odyssey_**](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078317/). Nothing good in it. Nothing.

My word. Not one mention of a CB movie in a CB-crazed decade? The internet of the 70’s! The CB radio! Have one in your car, and find out where the “smokies” are! (not only internet fun, but contained a police detector too!) The CB. Everyone’s first official cell phone. Of course, you would need someone at home to be waiting for you to call out to answer you. Which reminds me of yet ANOTHER thing the CB was on the cutting edge of… CHAT ROOMS! You could listen to conversations on any one of 21 stations (19 was the “Trucker” band), and if you wanted to chat, you had to say “Breaker one-nine!” That would let people know you were trying to speak on channel 19, but unless someone said “go ahead, breaker!”, you were stuck sitting there waiting for someone to give you permission to speak. You also had to have a “handle” which is equivalent to today’s user name. It was sort of like a verbal avatar. Every town had losers that called themselves Bandit and Snowman. Maybe even a Rubber Duck!

Sure, most of you are thinking “But I saw **Smokey and the Bandit** , and it wasn’t that bad!” Yeah, yeah. Child’s play.

I bring you Chuck Norris in [Breaker! Breaker!](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075783/)

Imagine my surprise to see the 3.3 rating on IMDB. Chuck Norris must have some loyal followers. I saw this movie the first weekend it was out. Me and 5 other people. 4 of us were there together, and there were two other losers in there. This was the day of the massive single theater screen, not the multiplexes of today. It seemed like we were watching this shitbag movie in the Astrodome.

I lose!

I have seen this one, as well. Definitely a bad movie, but a very attractive lead actress, Cheryl “Rainbeaux” Smith, helped soften the blow a bit.

Oh, definitely! Caroline Munro, clad in skimpy attire, makes up for the otherwise-horrid monstrosity of a movie!

[The Werewolf Versus the Vampire Woman](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066160/combined). By comparison, Underworld is literally a hundred times better a vampire-fighting-werewolves movie. This might be the most bizarrely dispassionate horror movie I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, I saw it in the theaters originally, and as a kid thought the turtle-alien creatures and the SFX were pretty cool.

Then I saw it on MST3K and a part of my childhood blew up in my face.

You definitely saw it on TeeVee, although it’s certainly not remarkably gory by today’s standards. For me, the depiction of the violence (how much and how “gory”) is excessive, and yanks me out of the story.

I’m not someone who is bothered much by movie violence and gore, but in this case less would have been more effective. I think.

> Well, it’s not as if the plots of “Top Hat” or “Swing Time” weren’t pretty silly either. The big problem with “At Long Last Love” is that Burt Reynolds and Cybil Shepherd ain’t Astaire and Rogers. For that matter, they fail to reach merely competent with their singing & dancing in the film.

Not to mention Cybil’s acting, which was motivated by delusions of adequacy.

But “Bless the Beasts and the Children” had a great soundtrack. Besides the title song there was what is now known as the theme from the Young and Restless.

Two mitigating factors: This was a TV movie, cashing in on a band nobody thought would still be around a year later. Also, they retained some plot elements from the Steve Gerber KISS comic from the previous year.

Just think of all the movies that wouldn’t be the movies they are/were without the talents of [Anthony Zerbe!](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001875/)

Hell, he was even in _Cool Hand Luke._

"… And there was a time in this country, a long time ago, when reading wasn’t just for fags and neither was writing. People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again! "
