I always felt bad for poor Junior, doing his best to help his Pappy campaign, but Pappy always rejects his suggestions. Junion: We could hire our own midget, even shorter than his. Pappy: Wouldn’t we look like a bunch of Johnny-come-latelies, bragging on our own midget, doesn’t matter how stumpy. or in front of the radio station out in the middle of nowhere, Junior suggests he mingle with the electorate (the Soggy Bottom Boys) Pappy: I’ll press your flesh, you dimwitted sumbitch! You don’t tell your pappy how to court the electorate. We ain’t one-at-a-timin’ here. We’re MASS communicating! The worst being " Thank God your mammy died givin’ birth. If she’d have seen you, she’d have died o’ shame. " Junior is going to need a LOT of therapy. ---

Some people may not know that the Coens didn’t create the character of Pappy O’Daniel. There really was a Governor Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel and he had a radio show like the one in the movie. But in real life he was the Governor of Texas not Mississippi. ---
