Do old people turn off their hearing aids when their spouses start to nag?

One of my college professors switched his off at the start of the class. This means that when one of us asked a question, the professor wouldn’t answer the question being asked but the question which had been most commonly asked, oh… ten or so years before, when he still didn’t need a hearing aid.

We were extremely glad when he was forced into retirement.
My grandparents refuse to wear their hearing aids while at home. I’ve already informed Mom and them that I, in turn, refuse to be in a house where the TV is at a volume high enough to be heard from outside with all windows and doors closed.
