My parents never use my full name. Instead, it’s “Dammit, Lindsay!”
Ah, yes. If my parents used my middle name, it meant that I was in trouble.
“Diceman, time for dinner,” meant that I should wander into the kitchen within the next few minutes.
“Diceman Charter Member, you get in this house this instant!” indicated that I had about 4 seconds to get my butt into that chair.
I actually think that rowrrbazzle may be onto something here. Using the bad guy’s full name is basically the state’s way of saying, “John Wayne Gacy, you are in biiiiiig trouble now, mister!”
Wasn’t the question of why murderers are referred to by all three names an SD question once? Or was that a “Why Things Are” question?
The answer was that the press wants to differentiate the accused/convicted from other people with the same first and last names.
We knew when my mom was really mad. She would just say all our names, “Jill, Tom, Susan, whatever your name is, you stop it right now!”
The names were always yelled in birth order and I’m the oldest. I think when she got mad, she always started with me, then added the names to cover herself no matter who was at fault. Mom said the two younger were the same trouble as me by myself.
We are starting on our third adoption. The hardest part of the whole process is picking a name. I’ve been trying them out “Raven Hope, get over here!” “Scout Hope, leave your sister alone!” and so on. Since her middle name will be Chinese, I’m not sure that whole “all three names” thing will work. Hmmm…“Scout Xiuxiu Hope, clean that up right now!” Maybe…
I don’t remember my mom doing it, but that was long ago and far away and my memories of those times have faded, faded,…
Even now when mum is fed up with me, it’s FirstName SecondName [sometimes surname]. If things are really dire, she calls me by my Secondname Surname.
My sister has been married since 1969, but I’ll still hear mum shout down the wire at her ‘FirstName MaidenName!’
LOL
“Bloody ratbag” was Dad for “You #!&*ing little #@&!”. In our house, if Dad called you a bloody ratbag, it was time to head for the hills!
