Why the wat? That’s what their manifesto says. As far as I’m aware you only need a degree of any level to get onto a teacher training programme, although the Labour government was in the process of working teaching up to a Masters level profession too.
A year ago, Georgia elected to give new science and/or math teachers a five-year advance on the salary scale. I don’t know if any of them got the advance, since the economy sucked so bad that teachers were furloughed all over the state. Teacher layoffs will be legion here this spring.
I think he was asking what a “2:2 degree” is. I’ve never heard the expression, either.
CRSP is from the UK so he should have done.
When you get a degree you get (in descending order) either a first, a 2:1, a 2:2 or a pass. So at the moment you just need to pass, but the Cons want to raise the bar up to a 2:2 as the minimum threshold.
Isn’t there also a Third somewhere in there?
Oh, yeah - whoops :o
It’s between 2:2 and pass. The less charitable description of a pass is a gentleman’s fail - it basically says you went to the university but know little more than the bare minimum for the subject.
Speaking as an ex High School and also an ex College teacher…
No.
I actually brought it up and I thought they would beat the crap out of me. Humanities faculty, in particular, were especially irritated/upset. Why should you get paid more for doing the same job?!
Well, saying … because I am in higher demand!..would have resulted in my death or severe beating.
It is wrong. Math/Science etc SHOULD be paid more…maybe much more, IMO.
However, as one poster has said…you have much more jobs to choose from…even though they all pay shit. Many Humanities teachers I knew had real problems finding jobs.
