> Don’t worry **Sonia Montdore** the alligators have eaten all the snakes, and the hurricanes have killed all the alligators. There is a problem though with [Rodents of Unusual size](http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006HZZE.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) though 🙂

Now don’t exaggerate, some snakes have taken to eating the gators. 🙂
The everglades pythons are getting to a pretty decent size now.

Seriously,
If the OP is that concerned about snakes, Florida or anywhere in the deep south probably isn’t for her (I assume). While snakes and reptiles in general do cover almost all of the US and can get into houses anywhere, the chances are higher down here. And it isn’t just because of the temperature. High water is more common here and because of that wild animals tend to move to where it is dry.

It’s been ten years so they’ve probably already been killed by snakes by now.

Lotta old names in this thread. What the heck; I’ll inject some life into the mostly dead.

I lived for a decade or so in the southwest, where scorpions were a real issue. We didn’t see many, but we took precautions every day; shaking out shoes, etc.

So now I move to FL. Where our area is lousy with these cute little lizards: [Curlytail Lizard - Florida eco travel guide](http://www.wildflorida.com/wildlife/lizards/Curlytail_Lizard.php). They’re utterly harmless. The juveniles are an inch long and the big ones are about 8" long. And they’re everywhere; dozens live in our building’s landscaping.

And out of the corner of your eye they look exactly like scorpions when they move. Legs sticking out of the side of the body, big tail “stinger” raised high, a jerky zoom and freeze, zoom and freeze motion.

A couple years later I’ve finally gotten over turning to face the danger every time I see one of these things in my peripheral vision.

We live on the waterway across from a nature preserve. 5 foot iguanas [Iguana - Florida eco travel guide](http://www.wildflorida.com/wildlife/lizards/Iguana.php) are common on our dock. Ref the dear departed OP, I’ve seen a couple snakes, but none in the house. Yet. We find dessicated baby lizards indoors fairly often though.

> I have bad news for some of the people that said they don’t. I used to live in the Port St Lucie Florida area and had several encounters with venomous snakes. When my husband and I bought our first house there was a lot of construction going on all over my neighborhood as lots were constantly being cleared to build new houses. Right after we moved in my neighbor and her husband came over to greet us and were quick to tell us to be careful working in the yard as they had seen several small Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes coiled up by the edges of their house. First encounter-We set up our one year old daughters wading pool by the patio about 3 feet from the edge of the house. When we were about to turn on the hose there was the first small rattlesnake. My husband and I are both Florida natives and I have a book on Florida snakes that I’ve had since I was a kid. Snake was a small Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. My husband killed it immediately. Second Encounter-I was home alone with daughter a few weeks later -she was taking a nap- in any event I opened the sliding glass door in the dining room that was in the same part of the house where we encountered previous snake and another baby diamondback slithered right into the house! I jumped on top of a chair all the time keeping my eye on the snake and called my neighbor who came right over and whisked it out of the house with a broom. Flash forward a few years a new house a few blocks away with in ground pool. A Coral snake this time. Again my husband killed it. Around that same time another one of my neighbors was having a pool put in and the guys building the pools were being harassed by a water moccasin. We didn’t know that yet and when my daughter and I were taking our afternoon walk we always would stop and look at the turtles in the canal by that neighbors house (from a safe distance). Anyway that same water moccasin started swimming toward us in a seeming aggressive manor. (Those snakes are territorial) Anyway I told the homeowner who happened to be a cop and he came outside and killed it with a shotgun. PS My parents who also lived in the area had a coral snake on the driveway which my dad killed and another time any unidenifided (lol) snake came out of the drain when my dad was in the shower and it went back down the drain before he could do anything. Long story short there are a lot of poisonous snakes in residential areas of Florida!

Do they have paragraphs in Florida?
mmm

They’re only available imported.

Folks who’ve graduated from the local schools laboring under starvation budgets for the last 20 years don’t know about them or use them. Too rich for their blood. 🙂

How did ol’ Florida Gurl even find this thread?

Was she thinking “You know, I saw a snake in my Florida home and think there are people in the world who want to know if snakes get into Florida homes…They need my expertise!”

So she Googled it and found the thread and felt the need to answer? Strange…
