I don’t think Canadian zed is going anywhere fast. We’ve made it into a shibboleth too.
“And they said to him, ‘Art thou an A-mè-ri-cän?’ And he said unto them, ‘No.’ And they said, ‘Say now Zed’. And he said, ‘Zee’, for he could not frame to pronounce it right. So they took him, and slew him…”
Ummm… No it isn’t. It’s more like “Nyu Zill’d.” And we don’t say “haitch” either - it’s “aitch”. But the sheep thing is all true.
Hey Roppy, I was just joking, along the same lines as annalamerino’s zedbra jokes.
The last time I was in NZ they said that they only had half as many sheep as they used to. So we only told half as many sheep jokes…
Along the same lines, I was watching “a fish called Wanda” the other day, and it sounded like the English dude pronuounced “W” really short like “whuh”(best I can aproximate it). Did I imagine it or do you really do that. Cause if you do its cool, it always annoyed me that people abbrieviate “world wide web” with “www” which is three times as long to say.
