As far as the “boo hoo hoo” issue is concerned- true…you don’t have to smoke, but why force smokers to pay an arm and a leg for a cigarette? It is obvious that increasing the price of cigarettes does not significantly impact a person’s decision to smoke. The government is just taking advantage of people who are addicted.
No, they’re trying to make up for the vast quantities of money spent on medical care for smokers who come down with smoking-related diseases and don’t have adequate medical insurance. You want to use something that’s been proven to cause all sorts of horrible diseases? Fine by me, but don’t ask me to help pay your medical bills when you get one of them.
