The rich, famous, beautiful people always seem to marry each other. But there must be some examples of rich, famous, beautiful people marrying average-looking, middle-income nobodys. Mustn’t there?

Rob Lowe has been married for 17 years to a woman who was a makeup artist on one of his shows. She looks good, but not beautiful, IMHO.

Julia Roberts is married to a camera man.

I think celebrities are attracted to other celebrities because deep down, they’re impressed with the other person’s fame, just like us regular schmucks are. I mean, Tony Romo is a nice looking young man, but would he be shagging Jessica Simpson if he wasn’t the QB of the Dallas Cowboys? Likewise, would Jessica Simpson be anything other than just another blonde one-night stand to T.R. if she wasn’t a star?

I think it is more about what the celebrity is looking for: if they are looking for someone who understands and can relate to the pressures they themselves feel, then marrying another celebrity makes sense. If the celebrity is looking to stay more grounded and have a touchstone outside their celebrity-ness, then a non-celeb may make more sense.

But if you see the list of folks - a makeup artist, a secretary, a cameraman - I think celebrities may have limited access to “normal” folks - they only see the Normals they run into as part of…being a celebrity.

Dolly Parton was the one I was thinking of too. She has her own theme park among many other things and her long-time husband owns an asphalt paving company and wants nothing to do with show-business. He is just a completely normal guy.

Britney Spears married Jason Alexander (the not-famous one) for a few hours. Then she married Kevin Federline. Although I’m unsure that Kevin Federline was making enough to be considered “middle income.”

Elliot Gould (1963-1971) and James Brolin (1998-present) are hardly “regular guys.” They’re both famous. Kudos for spelling her name right though. That always makes me happy.

Matt Damon married (and is still married to) a bartender. She’s now an interior designer. They have two kids and are expecting a third. She also has a child from a previous marriage. They married in 2005 and Good Will Hunting came out in 1997, Oceans Eleven in 2001, The Bourne Identity in 2002, so he was very famous when they met.

It was a joke. 🙂 And if I misspelled Barbra…my gay card would not only be revoked, it would be shredded, buried until it was mulch and then scattered to the four winds.
