Do they have ___ in England?

I have seen protesters outside both Mildenhall and Flyingdales at various times. I also think there’s some swampies up in Falsane but wouldn’t swear to it

I believe the Faslane peace protesters are still there. Of course, that’s a UK military base, not a US one.

So’s Menwith Hill.

Yes, though I understand that there was (and still is, perhaps, I don’t know) a significant US presence at Menwith Hill, whereas Faslane was primarily an RN facility. The US base in the general area was at the Holy Loch.

The procedures may have changed over the past twenty-five years, but what they told me to do was to get a regular tourist passport (and I needed to get one, because I’d never been out of North America at that point) which I had to pay for myself. They also issued me a official passport (one for regular U.S. government employees working outside the U.S., not a diplomatic passport). I entered the U.K. on my official passport. All the touring around Europe I did was on my tourist passport (and I didn’t happen to do any working outside the U.K. during that time). I returned to the U.S. on my official passport. Ask the military people who arrange everything about your move about this. The procedures may have changed since my time there. The procedures are probably different for military people. The U.S. military moves a lot of its people to and from the U.S. every year, and they should have all the details worked out and should be able to explain them you carefully.

For what it’s worth, I think the following two books will tell you a lot about living in the U.K.:

Watching the English
Sorry, I’m British!
