The study I remembered reading had 5 days without dairy as being some sort of a peak point. I really don’t know ANY adults who have not had a 5-day period without dairy in their lives. I’m still interested in finding whatever it is I read even if it’s BS.
I can’t say for sure since I wasn’t paying attention, but there were very few days in my life from early childhood on when I didn’t have at least 6-8 oz of milk in a day. I am a creature of food habit and I had a bowl of Grape Nuts with milk in it every morning for years and years and years. Often two. And a big glass of milk at some point after that. I also ate a reasonable amount of yogurt and cheese. I developed lactose intolerance when I was 29-30ish. I’m Jewish; we have a high rate of adult lactose intolerance. I can eat live culture yogurt okay and manage a little milk or cheese if my general rhinitis is low. If it’s high, though (say, during the spring), I have little lactose tolerance.
I’ve certainly gone months if not years as an adult without dairy
You must be thinking about dairy as just being milk. If you include cheese, butter, cream, creamers, sour cream, cream cheese, yogurt, ice cream, evaporated milk, baked goods, sauces, cream soups, cold cuts, pasta dishes, deep-fried battered foods, dips, cocoa, pancakes and waffles, cheese doodles, ranch and buttermilk salad dressings, cream liquors and beers, soufflés, quiches, pot pies, puddings, and the ten million packaged goods on supermarket shelves that contain whey I’ll bet that you never go even two days without dairy at any time in your life unless you are super-conscientiously cutting it out of diet.
You’re probably right I keep forgetting the crap people eat I have periods of my life when I mostly subsist on meat, fish, vegetables, fruit and dairy (cheese and milk). There have definitely been periods of my life where I spent a week without dairy, maybe even a month.
During my last visit to Beijing in February, we saw quite a few signs for the soft serve variety of ice cream available in the Wangfujing district.
You mean that soft-serve stuff? Is there any dairy in that? I thought it was a “non-dairy confection” of some sort.
