The reason I ask is that I like them, and my beau is going to Norway next week and was going to get me one, but then it occured to me that I don’t have any from outside North America. So - is the snow globe a strictly North American thing, or do any of you Euro, or Aussie dopers have them? Thanks! ---

**WOO HOO!!** I told my BF about this thread and he was worried that those from Norway might take offense to the question. If so, sorry about that. I just wasn’t sure - I mean, you can get “Gift Apples” in Japan, but I sure ain’t seen one here - I just didn’t want him to go on a wild goose chase. Thanks! 🙂 ---

Well **Narrad** - they don’t necessarily have _SNOW_ in them. My one from DC has the white house with red, white and blue stars floating around, and my one from Hawaii has blue water, with a pair of women surfing on it (They float around - it’s really cool). I have one from the Statue of Liberty, that has very understated, dignified sparkles - appropriate, I think. Vancouver has a moose, and flakes about as big as his head. This is one of the cheaper models. Montreal has the Big-O, and some nifty silver disco stuff going on. Having lived in Montreal, I can attest to the appropriateness of this. Anyhow - to sum up, Snow Globes don’t necessarily contain snow. ---

A snow globe is a sealed glass ball filled with mineral oil (baby oil), and either glitter, or tiny white plastic bits meant to look like snow. You turn it upside-down, and then back upright, and the flaky stuff twirls around and looks pretty. Traditional.
