I’m on a quest for a new Christmas tree. The trouble is, I’m having a difficult time finding what I want: 6 or 6.5’, pre-lit, LED multi-color. I’ve seen a few on the net, but they come with $45 shipping charges. Vague recollections from last year’s Christmas shopping at various big-box retailers leads me to believe that I’m not going to find what I’m looking for at a big-box store.

Is it possible that I might find what I want at a more upscale place such as Macy’s, Sak’s 5th Avenue, etc.?

Failing that, does anyone know of an all-Christmas, all-year-round retailer in the metro St. Louis area (I’m going to be there next weekend)?

I don’t know about year-round, but the type of tree you’re looking for is usually carried by Lowe’s around Christmas time. You want to go a bit lower end on the shopping. I’ve also seen these at Target, honestly. I know those are big-box stores by most definitions, but Lowes does, in season, carry a very good selection of artificial trees and other decorative stuff. We bought a pre-lit LED tree there last year; they had both all-white and multi-color.

You could also try craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael’s. They tend to put their Christmas tress out for sale earlier than other retailers.

As it happens, **tygre** (aka my wife) used to work at Bergners, probably the location you’re thinking of too, when she lived in Spffld. Here’s what she said when I asked her about this:

> [@](#):
>
> We sold fake ones (at Bergners) when I worked there in fall 2003, at least: little ones about 3’ tall that were in pots –they were more for outdoor decoration, and were pre-lit ones. They went on sale for Black Friday and were one of the specials in the flyer for the sale starting at 5 a.m. I mainly remember them because they were packaged in cheap cardboard boxes that were ugly as sin. They sold like hotcakes. We also sold some, but not a ton, of the regular full-size indoor fake variety (6’+ tall), almost all of which were prelit. Not sure how many styles of those we had, probably one or two. I think we only sold about 50 of those. We kept them in the stockroom except for a few on the floor for display. They looked like the standard tree you get for $100 at Target. Nothing special. Not the cheap variety but not swell.
>
> Also, at the end of the Christmas season, when all the ornaments and stuff go on massive discount, we did sell the swanky display trees – we had about 6 of those. Those went for about $100-$200 (not with ornaments, though, those sold separately). That was AFTER the discounts, and people grabbed them up like you wouldn’t believe. Those trees were really nice and full, and you can’t find that kind at Target/Wal-Mart. Ours were delivered to us by the person from corporate who with his crew of a couple people travelled to all the stores in the chain to decorate their trees (harder than you think because they do a lot more ornaments than the average person, and the trees were themed). I have no idea of the manufacturer on these as I never saw boxes from them, and we sold them without the box.

To answer this - you might want to try [Forshaws](http://www.forshaws.com/) . I drive by them every day on my way to work. According to their website, they carry Christmas items year round…though I haven’t noticed that driving by. After Halloween or so, that’s a great majority of their business. I’d classify them as mid-high-end.

They are on Lindbergh in the Frontenac area and easy to find. They’re close to the current construction/rebuild project for Highway 64, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
