Do we have a thread for SlackerInc yet? Maybe we should

I guess I’ll spell out the obvious:

@SlackerInc: if you were actually as intelligent as you claim, you would be able to convince other people of your intelligence. Intelligent people don’t need to argue their intelligence. You’d be able to just say things or do things that would demonstrate that intelligence. That’s clearly your goal, so why can’t you pull it off? The only rational interpretation is that you’re not as intelligent as you think.

I normally wouldn’t bring up my ACT score, but it seems instructive here. It was higher than yours. And I’m sure there are posters whose scores are even higher than mine, as they seem better at the skills the ACT tests for.

Many of us are used to being the smartest person in the room, or at least in the upper echelon. That’s likely true for you, too. But the cool thing about this board is that this is usually NOT the case here. You just aren’t going to be smarter than everyone around.

Does that mean they’re always right? No. But it does mean that you shouldn’t be simply discarding the judgement of so many. Your stubbornness and refusal to back down is not an indication of strength, but weakness. It means you don’t allow inconvenient facts to change your views. Thus you hit a point where you stopped learning.

You have shown at times the mental ability to understand things and reason through things, but then you so often seem to refuse to do so when it would mean accepting that you yourself might be flawed.
