It may be a question better suited to another thread (and likely one that’s been asked previously), but since you’re here - - are those organizations succeeding overall? Seems like I’ve been watching the same commercials for 30+ years. Do they expect to eventually “succeed”?

IANA Racist, and IANA fessie, but there’s plenty of disturbing racist dogma that somehow places pretty much any [insert “race” construct here] as being “sub-human” or “more closely related to filthy animals than to humans” which simultaneously implies that whatever group is making such comparisons are not animals (which is not the case), and further, that whatever group making such comparisons are not only seperate from this perceived world of animals, but superior to it (which is not the case).

Well, see, I do think humans (of all races) are superior to non-sentient animals, in that our lives are worth more and we should expend more resources to save and protect them. So maybe that’s why the analogy falls flat for me.

In 2000 the UN introduced the Millennium Development Goals, which are goals which are hoped to have been met by 2015, and which all relate to development. Here (pdf file) is an indicator of how “on track” these goals are. The general consensus is that, while there is progress, it’s not currently fast enough that all the goals will be met by 2015.

I guess showing starving kids pulls on people’s heartstrings, that’s why they’re always on our teles.

Additionally, poverty is a result of choices made by governments to a large degree, which is unfortunate.
