For me, job one is finding the happy medium between Nice (“one day he’ll notice how awesome I am and suddenly all the stuff that would make a relationship between us an utter trainwreck will just disappear on a cloud of butterfly wings!)” and bitter (“all men are manipulative pussy-hounds who’d rather have one-night-stands with interchangeable bimbos than fathom a long-term relationship with a mature, well-employed, property-owning woman like me”). I also need to keep reminding myself that there are worse things in the world than getting dumped or cheated on or lied to, and hiding from those possibilities by not dating only ensures that I’ll never be hurt _ **or** _ loved. There’s so much opportunity for happiness out there; getting bogged down in all the depressing what-ifs makes a lifetime of loneliness a self-fulfilling prophecy. ---

Heh, “Nice Girls”, are often really dull and not so nice as they think they are. The idea that men are not attracted to smart girls is an adage of dumb ugly women who thought grades were an indicator of intelligence. Basically all these stereotypes are baseless, whatever good qualities you have they are not the reason that you can’t get a date. You can’t get a date because of the bad qualities that you’re glossing over whatever they may be. ---

The “mature, well-employed, property-owning” qualities are so far down the list of most men who are looking for a girlfriend that no one thinks about them. It’s funny, but “mature, well-employed, property-owning” sounds to me like some important qualities a woman would look for in a man, and women may be making the mistake that men should also be using those qualities in judging a potential romantic interest. ---
