My husband has asked me to kill him if he turns into his father.

I am a sufficient melding of my mother and father that I’ve become some sort of neurotic Italian/Jewish hybrid that only resembles the sources in a few specific ways. However, I tend to date men whose personalities eerily resemble one parent or the other, with predictably frustrating and occasionally horrifying results. My ex-fiancee was like a male version of my mother (personality-wise; looks-wise, two white people could not be more different). It ended in tears, of course.

I need to date someone who’s more like me… :dubious: Or not.

No, what you need is to date someone who has _parents_ that you like. 😛

I used to fear turning into my mom, especially since I look like her (like **Snakescatlady,** people who knew my mother when she was young don’t even **ask** me who I am, they already **know** who I am.) Now I don’t fear it so much, since I’ve learned that I can gracefully take the good parts, and leave the rotten parts behind.

If I may interject some thing here.
Being adopted, I have to say there are certain things that I do that my mom does because it is a learned thing. Yanno, hang out with the chimps one eventually learns to fling poo and all that.
However, I am also so unlike here it is in a way comforting as any daughter with a good mom with a few annoying habits ( mental, not bad-bad things) has. It’s like an anthropological thing to watch.
Alas I will admit a certain savage glee in watching one by-marriage family member morph into her mother in a phyiscal manner. It’s like slowly watching a parade float blow up. I am sure other women out there understand my schadenfreude.
