Do you believe in ghosts?

I’ve had a couple weird experiences, though nothing that didn’t have a logical explanation.

Then I had a friend who went to the graveyard and saw the skeletons glowing in the graves.

I questioned him about it and he admitted he was on LSD.

No.

Three people (that we know of) have died in my mother’s house: her parents and her sister. Not all at the same time - over a period of 17 years, but two died in one bedroom, and the other died in another bedroom. I’ve slept in both bedrooms. At no time have my grandparents or my aunt come back to interact with me.

I figure if people that close can’t be bothered to return in spectral form, there can’t possibly be ghosts. I mean, c’mon - my own grandmother can’t come back from the other side to say hi to her first grandchild? I think not.

No, and I don’t anticipate anyone ever proving that there are ghosts.

My house is FULL of mirrors accessible to my cat.

That doesn’t matter, every morning around 8ish, he’ll go in my sons bathroom, hop up on the counter and meow at his reflection in the mirror for like ten minutes.

The only conclusion I’ve come up with as to why he does this, is because he’s a vain son of a bitch, and he must be in love with himself.
But uh, ghosts is another way to go I guess.

Best post in this thread.

I’d like to add that there are two sorts of ghost reports:

  • honest individuals who have had a strange experience they can’t explain (sadly the experience never recurs)

  • TV shows, charlatans and lazy media who want to make money out of ‘ghost investigators’, tourists and the gullible

No.

No. Ghosts don’t believe in me, so why should I believe in them?

Don’t believe in ghosts. They’ll just let you down.

I do, I do, I do believe in spooks.

The CIA kind, that is.

Otherwise, not so much.

As Zebra said, there are stories.

I’m sure at least some of those stories have a Perfectly Rational Explanation—if they’re not outright lies or hoaxes—and I suspect all of them do, but I’m open to being convinced otherwise.

Yes, there are many stories of ghosts. The problem for me is that nobody else ever see the ghost.
Perhaps the person reporting the ghost:

  • just woke up
  • heard a house creaking
  • had a joke played on them
  • heard a passer by

Until we see some evidence, there’s nothing to believe in.

Bear in mind that there are worldwide claims of haunted houses and ‘investigators’ looking for ghosts all the time.
Yet nobody ever comes up with any evidence.

If you believe in ghosts based purely on reports, you should also believe in:

  • the Loch Ness Monster
  • Bigfoot
  • Yetis
  • alien abductions

It would be great if any of this were true…but there’s no actual evidence for any of it.

No.

It sounds more likely that your basement has a rodent problem than a ghost problem - or maybe rodent ghosts!?!

Over the last several centuries, people have died pretty much everywhere. Ghosts should be everywhere or nowhere, I’m going with nowhere.

Believing in gravity is really keeping you down.

Ghosts don’t exist, it’s not a matter of belief. The only things I’d say I “believe” in are concepts, like equal protection under the law or environmental conservation.

There are metaphorical ghosts, like trauma plaguing by battlefield veterans or crime victims, or institutional history that colors perceptions of the present.

I have not seen any personally, but have heard many stories from people around me.

Things that go bump in the night are treated with derision, because those are the mediocre ones wandering aimlessly. The big guns need to be specifically invoked. There is an entire branch of Hindu religious tradition that is specifically aimed at the invoking/controlling/directing occult forces, and despite knowing nothing about the actual practices, I remain respectful of them.

So to answer the OP: Yes. Not because I have seen one, but because there are ways I know of that are said to be extremely effective at granting you all manners of occult powers, including the ability to summon ghosts and get stuff done by them.

Ghosts may not exist, but people who believe in ghosts certainly do.
