Do you believe in high school, grades are "given" or "earned"?

I disagree entirely, I always found tests pointless. There’s almost no real world scenario where I have to parrot trig identities in under a second. Unless you’re helming a ship or tracking a missile there’s nearly no value to being able to perform under such a short artificial time constraint.

I always preferred difficult take home exams.

In addition, while I know self control is my own damn problem and not the teacher’s, anecdotally I’ve noticed that my desire to do homework wanes when it’s not graded, even though intellectually I know it’s good for me. I think that a lot of teachers have played around with not grading homework, but most ended up realizing that the students tend to get more out of the course when it’s graded because they actually do the work.
