Do you believe most Americans are stupid?

At least we don’t wear liederhosen like they do in your country.

Stupid is a stupid word.

As has been said upthread; most people are busy with their lives. However, that does not excuse idiocy.

Just because you’re busy doesn’t mean you can’t take time to think before you speak. Unfortunately, thinking seems to have gone by the way, and speaking has become shrieking and has replaced reasonable discourse in venues ranging from cafeterias to congress.

It has been my experience that people, by and large, spend little time considering the things that really matter. They think that a grocery list is poetry; softball scores are historic, and the rumble in their gut is a subject of monumental proportions - a matter to discuss at length.

Perhaps it is. But I’d rather shave my scrotum with a weedwhacker than engage in that conversation.

Just wanted to point out that the question being begged in the IQ discussion is whether or not the stupid/not stupid dividing line corresponds to the 100 IQ line. Seems to me it tends to be relative. For those of us with IQs to the right of 130, 90-odd percent of the population can appear to be rather dumb at times.

There is also confirmation bias. Whatever their actual numbers, there are enough stupid people out there that we notice them constantly. (Though I seldom come across someone of whom I think, “Hmmm; must have dove into the shallow end of the gene pool.”)
