I’m always glad to hear it. Less after a while, especially when a certain store just has one tape from one singer.
But in general I love them right through to New Years.
I heard in the car a magnificent orchestration today of the little drummer boy done with timpany and oboe, as powerful as a Wagner opera, and I had to pull over just so I could give it my full attention.

I enjoy Christmas music, to a point. When it’s one song every now and then on the radio during December, or in the mall while I’m doing my Christmas shopping, I’m ok with it.

Working in a mall over the Christmas season a couple of years ago, though, I wanted to pour acid in my ears rather than hear “Feliz Navidad” one more freakin time. With such a vast selection of Christmas music available, _why_ do the malls play the same dozen songs a billion times?

I’ve hated Christmas music for years; I complain vociferously at every opportunity.

It’s no better when it’s the same dozen songs by 200 artists apiece (I’m looking at you, two local radio stations that have messed up my car’s preset progressions by starting before Thanksgiving…).

I do get amused by various anti-christmas songs. Like Blink 182 “I Won’t Be Home For Christmas” or South Park’s “Mr Hanky the Christmas Poo”.

I never complain I love it. The only Christmas song I really don’t like is the Little Drummer Boy. I think I love every other Christmas song I ever heard.

I only complain about certain ones. The rest I could listen to all year.

My shit list:

The Christmas Shoes - glurge out the dying mother’s wazoo
Any version of _Santa Baby_ that isn’t Eartha Kitt
Any Christmas song by Wham! or originally by Wham!
Kenny G

I worked at Sears a long time ago, for about a year. From Thanksgiving until Christmas, they played the same five songs on a loop.

I started making up new lyrics for them- made it just a little more tolerable.

_Jack Frost roasting on an open fire
Chipmunks nibbling on your toes
Yuletide carolers being hung from a wire
And Volkswagens running over Eskimoes
Everybody knows
That napalm and a flamethrower
Will help to cook the turkey right
Although it’s been said
Many times, many ways
Merry Christmas
Screw You._

LOL. Jayjay would swear that this thread is for me. I do like Christmas music, but only at certain times, like when the holiday is actually happening. At other times, it annoys the living heck out of me. On the other hand, Jayjay could listen to it all year round, despite the very few Christmas songs that he “claims” to not like. Our favorite car radio station went to all Christmas music the week before Thanksgiving. He was in ecstasy. I was definitely NOT. tank heavens we bought an mp3 player and thumb drives for our car trips.

I too enjoy it. Yes, I get a little tired of the same ones being played over and over, but I love them.

I like it. However, there’s only one version of _Little Drummer Boy_ that I can stand. (EmmyLou Harris) I actually crumpled on the ground in laughter when I saw a van from the **Rupp Pump Co.** I never could fathom what _Do You Hear What I Hear_ was supposed to mean.

A friend of mine, working second shift at Arby’s, had a running tally of how many times the cycle of music (marked by _Frosty The Snowman_) came around during a shift.

I once asked a store clerk how she felt about the Seven Dwarves light set playing the same carols all day long. She grabbed my collar desperately, Then her eyes settled down, and she said, “only another 12 days. Only another 12 days.”

Hate it. Totally and completely. I have another 24 days of having to listen to the tripe play in the locker room of my health club.

I actually avoid going into certain public spaces this time of year.

I remember with fondness from some thirty-odd years ago in a December issue of _Playboy_, a cartoon where a man is smiling in anticipation as he enters a bar with a sign in the window: No Christmas music inside.

Around my house that one has an exta verse, created by me:

Said the cat to the people everywhere
Do you see what I have?
Underneath my tail, everyone
Do you see what I have?
It’s pink, it’s pink
And it doesn’t stink
'Cause I wash it with my-y tongue
'Cause I wash it with my-y tongue.

The town where I live used to (about five years ago) pipe Christmas music over the P.A. system _all over town_, for the _whole month of December_. I wrote the local paper and called the mayor’s office to complain: not, as you may assume, on religious grounds.\*

My complaint was on grounds of taste: this was awful, _awful_ Christmas music: I’m talking Burl Ives and Osmonds awful. Now, I happen to like show tunes, and Weimar-era cabaret music, and Baroque composers, and '80s dance tunes. But I wouldn’t dream of subjecting an entire town to them for a month, or even a week.

P.S. I seem not to have been the only one complaining, and my town is now blessedly silent.

- Though I may have had a case . . . Why should non-Christians be subjected to Christian music for a whole month? Why should _Christians_, for that matter? I’m sure even the Pope likes a nice, quiet walk once and again.

Heh, sometimes I cannot tell you how much I love working in a library. No Christmas music, no Lite FM, no nothin’! And let me tell you, I used to work retail so I _know_.

I don’t mind Christmas music in general (I mean, in its proper place in December) but as a happy agnostic I really resent the fact that they only play the secular carols out in public anymore - Silver Bells, Let It Snow, etc. I love the old religious carols! I love the _old_ religious carols - I want more Personent Hodie, more Masters In This Hall, more Coventry Carol. Instead I get more We’re Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime, ugh.

I love Christmas music. Guess it might be slightly odd, since I’m an atheist, but Xmas music is just good stuff for me. And I’ll probably be slaughtered for this, but I love both Manheim Steamroller and the TSO. (Most TSO fans I’ve met scoff at Mannheim Steamroller).

Christmas itself though? I could do without it. Used to love it, now I border on disliking it with a passion.
